Laura Rea Dickey’s Response to Dickey’s Franchisee Survey

This is reportedly the acknowledgement by CEO Laura Rea Dickey that DBRI has received and reviewed the results of the 2019 POA Franchise Owner’s Survey.

It was sent shortly before 4th of July weekend, 2019.

With magnificent understatement, Ms. Rea Dickey states “We understand that there are some key aspects of our role as franchisor our Owner/Operators would like us to improve.  We hear you.”

Ms. Rea Dickey’s calm & measured response might lead one to believe that this is the first she’s heard about these complaints.

Yet franchisees have been voicing many of these same complaints through UnhappyFranchisee.Com since 2014.  We have forwarded them to Ms. Dickey & DBRI management for the past several years.

We have never received a response.

    I think it is very evident that the general consensus of Dickey’s franchisees is that corporate does nothing for them, and does not listen. RDJ and Laura Rae have this “we don’t make mistakes” approach to all decisions. Unfortunately, if the franchisees are believed, the only way for this company to succeed is for management to step down. They are clueless, and they hire people from failed restaurants to run their different divisions. That sounds like a winning formula to me!

    I also find it interesting that they are trying to prevent franchisees from posting to sites like this claiming they are not true… if they have nothing to hide and unhappyfranchisee allegations are false, then they should be able to make public comment explaining why these things are not true. Until they are able to do that, it must be considered that issues brought up here have some level of truth behind them.

    The Dickey’s company has no idea what they are doing. If your store sales are down, they call you incessantly and ask you what you are doing to build sales (a few times a day, constituting harassment). When your store sales are up, or not down by enough to be of concern to them, there is no support.

    Like most franchisees across the country, there are issues with hiring – locations can’t get employees to staff those higher sales that corporate wants. Not once do they offer any insight as to how to get new employees. They just let you go. These franchisees bought into a franchise for the support it supposedly provides, Roland sold the franchise to make every endeavor a profit center for Roland.

    The entire company is a sham and they like to think that they have the franchisee’s best interest in mind by sending out surveys and trying to appear as though they are engaged with the franchisee, but our area director can’t even follow through on her own commitments to us. Incessant promises of things she will look into and get us answers on and 6 months later NOTHING has been done to help our store in any capacity. As soon as there is something that DBRI wants, the email always ends “so, let’s get this done today”. Nope. Show your franchisees some respect before you expect them to show it in return.

  • Step Down Laura

    Dickey’s corporate is now claiming these surveys were hacked and the results are inaccurate. Whatever you do don’t open or buy an existing franchise. 1/2 the system is failing and over 200 stores have closed down in the last two years.

    @step down Laura

    My experience tells me that they could be correct: these results were hacked. Because we all know that their IT Systems and personnel are of the lowest quality and reliance anywhere.

    That being said – I don’t believe one bit that a hack is the cause of these results. DBRI is very quick to direct attention elsewhere when franchisee views do not align with their own. Unfortunately, that is on a daily basis.
