We received the following franchise warning about the MATCO TOOLS franchise opportunity. According to commenter “TOMMY CHEUNG” :
“STAY AWAY FROM MATCO TOOLS. THEY WILL SELL YOU A BILL OF GOODS,WHICH IS NO GOOD.
“RUMOR HAS IT ,MATCO MAKES MORE MONEY SIGNING NEW FRANCHISES THAN THEY DO TAKING CARE OF THEIR CURRENT ONES.
“DARYL PRITCHETT AND MIKE RAMEY WORK TOGETHER TO SIGN YOU UP AND THEN KICK YOU TO THE CURB. I AM WORKING ON A LAWSUIT AGAINST MATCO, HOPING TO TURN IT INTO A CLASS ACTION SUIT. YOU MAY CONTACT JERRY MARKS AT MARKS AND KLEIN LAW FIRM AT [redacted], IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.
“I INVESTED ALOT OF MONEY IN MATCO AND AFTER 3.5 YEARS THEY SHUT ME DOWN. WHEN THE ECONOMY SLOWED IN 2008,THEY PUT ME OUT OF BUSINESS.
“I ALSO SPOKE TO A PREVIOUS EXECUTIVE, WHO CALLED ME, AND STATED THATS THE WAY MATCO DOES BUSINESS. STAY AWAY FROM MATCO TOOLS AND RUN LIKE HELL WHEN YOU SEE THEM. I REPEAT DO NOT BUY OR INVEST IN MATCO TOOLS…”
Marks & Klein is a legitimate franchise law firm that often represents franchisees in lawsuits against their franchisors, but we haven’t verified with them whether a lawsuit against Matco Tools is in the works or not.
WHAT DO YOU THINK? IS MATCO TOOLS A GOOD FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY, A FAIR FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY OR A FRANCHISE SCAM?

Mike if you are looking for peace you will not find it with xmas what ever that is..
IT IS CHRISTMAS NOT xmas. It helps if you believe in something
relentless,im with ya 30 years turning wrenches 30 hours to sign a contract 30 hours till i went to stow and whats crazy is it only took 18 months to ruin my life thats crazy matco feeds on the week that have[or had] money,be strong people.
For the record and this just in Northwest Arkansas:
When I started there were 3 Matco Distributors (two in first year of franchise and I was one of them and the other had been in 3 yrs.), there were 5 Snap-On (the youngest had been in 5 years the others 10 or more), two Mac, 2 STS and one Cornwell.
Since I started I have seen 4 Snap-On, 2 Mac, 3 STS, 2 Cornwell and 7 Matco Distributors leave their franchises in NWA alone. Keep in mind one of the Snap-On is in the route that I was forced to vacate my customers and was my greatest competition while servicing my route.
tlman come on you pick on me for xmas you forgot the two o’s in your name, pot calling the kettle black TOOLMAN merry christmas tlman with no o sssssssssssssssssss
The meek shall inherit the earth ( not the weak ).
All I want for Christmas is an attorney with an aggressive approach for justice. I start shopping tomorrow.
tlman with no 0SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS WOW THATS DEEP check yeeeeer speeeeeellllin
If your thinking about becoming a Matco Distributor.
One of the biggest things for Matco to do is hype up being your own boss and doing things the way you want to do them. That is why Matco puts all that BS about if you have a problem you have to go through arbitration and then you can sue but not with a jury trial and it all has to be done in Ohio. Because they know they are going to screw people and what better way to fight than to stack a deck so that it favors the home team. I never would have dreamed I would be having to find an attorney and sue Matco to get justice when I started my franchise. I thought Matco cared about its Distributors and wanted them to succeed. Little did I know that they don’t believe in partnership. They only pursue the mighty dollar and don’t care who they ruin to get it. False Advertising is what Matco is. #1 Franchise Sham. MAYBE!!!
relenless well put,but as we have all found out once you sign and give your jack in 2 years see ya no house no money no life.Take the train ride
If your thinking about Matco you might just want go to Vegas and drop $30000 dollars on a Black Jack hand . YOUR ODDS OF WINNING ARE BETTER!
Matco can say whatever they want! Like I said through a rough economy we lost 7 distributors and Snap-On 4. By the way when I started their were almost twice as many Snap-On than Matco. Tell us again why Matco is a #1 Franchise? My answer is they are a #1 LIAR.
Anyone ever heard its business not personal. From day 1 my # 1 prioity has been my family my business and Matco has always been my last concern. Not that I don’t want Matco to improve dist relations but if they don’t oh well not my problem. My advice build a rock solid business with no debt let me say that again no debt. Matco is my business partner not anything else. I encourge you all to read what it takes to be #1 by Vince Lombardi. the Packers are undefeated
For a year now I thought it was just my DM attacking me because I was vocal about the immoral and unjust action by him. I too, informed the RM and Tom Willis, and they looked away as nothing was happening.
I truly believe that this is systematic- across the board, the plan Matco has to cheat good people out of their money.
For anyone that believes ‘Matco is your Business Partner’, may God bless you.
God has blessed me in so many ways. A fool and his money will soon part. Matco has not taken a penny from me that I was not willing to give them. I owe nothing so nothing can be taken from me. Matco needs to called to the carpet but give me a break you freaking people are weak just what kind of ToolMan could you really have been.
Like I said I LOVED MATCO as a tech. and as a Distributor. I bought into the bull your selling right now. But guess what? Not buying anymore and fixing to get the justice this American is entitled to because NOW I can pay for it.
Like to thank my mom who had to lend me $10000 dollars till I sold my truck so I could survive after I made sure Matco was paid in full. Did I mention Matco gave themselves a tip on the product they would let me return to the tune of over $5000. I hope my attorney gets me the interest on that money Matco is keeping after I prove it to them with the paperwork I have that shows it.
10,000 spent on inventory would have been a better investment at least you could have paid mommy back.
Mommy is paid back! Didn’t you hear? I sold one of my tool trucks to a Snap-on guy this weekend.
Besides investing $10000 in Matco only nets a distributor about $3500 MAX to pay for tool truck, phone, truck ins., inventory ins., liability ins., fuel, office supplies and bad debt. Matco made 100% profit and they already collected.
You know! If I was going to sell tools and I might. It would not be for any Tool Franchises. I would hop on the independent bus where you truly don’t have to have a Document where crooks could hide behind. If you have to sign an agreement don’t do it. I would rather just buy tools from the main manufacturers and not have to deal with DM and RM who care about one thing. THEMSELVES.
If Marks and klien does win look on the bright side not only does Matco get your money Jerry gets the rest. Haven’t you heard screw me once shame on you screw me twice shame on me. Better read the contract sorry dude there are no free rides in life. I am not an advocate for Matco Tools trust me I have really pissed them off many times just reading this they will know who I am but unlike many of you I know they can take nothing from me as I owe them nothing. You don’t steal from me example after 6 yrs skip total 0.3% I don’t have any plaques or ribbons but I have made a great living that includes 6-8 weeks off every year not the Matco way but I know how to sell and my customer know they must pay so I don’t have to collect.
I’ll put my best week in sales or collections up against yours.
[redacted] If Jerry wins you don’t think I win? How is Matco going to get my money? What does the contract have to do with anything and who said Jerry is my attorney?
[Please refrain from name-calling & personal attacks or risk suspension. Thanks. ADMIN]
Relentless you do talk the talk but walking the walk is just another story. You may have the largest sales week in history and the largest collection week in history. But let me school you It is all about margin and turn lets compare profit stats. I can’t count the number of dist that have lots of sales awards but are dead broke I try to help but they just don’t listen.
See you should be helping other Distributors because you are one instead of trashing distributors and flaunting stats which you can not prove. I tell you what look me up on facebook I would love to meet you and talk and share distributor to distributor. Show you the ugly face of Matco you are blindfolding your face to. Who knows maybe there is something a Distributor of Matco tools, who is on a web site where unhappy franchisees can vent and warn, can teach a guy like me how to be more successful than what I have already been. I mean I don’t have a job so I am free tomorrow how about you?
relentless you just said jerry is your attorney “if jerry wins you don’t think I win” don’t worry Tom Willis is not going to knock on your door and ask you to play golf tuesday morning but I am sure you will be home with mommy.
I have never missed a payment. I have almost perfect credit. I owe Matco nothing. I owe on 3 things in life and two of them I have at least 60% equity in. When Matco terminated me I was current on everything and owed less than 1300 on my franchise. Tell me what a failure I am.
I’ve worked hard, I work LONG hours and don’t have to justify ANYTHING to anyone,
particularly the Matco plants on this site.
However; I can PROVE Matco committed franchise fraud
I think the burden of proof is NOW upon Matco to prove otherwise
Seems there are HUNDREDS of distributors like myself
I was fed lies, my route was never viable, it was criminal that it ever was sold to me
It was criminal that an ERROR (by my DM) perpetuated itself for over SIX months – despite my repeated requests to explain or correct (I can document)
I can DOCUMENT & PROVE all the TRUTHS I’ve told
Matco plants can taunt and offend and try to derail but – it won’t work
They thought they could quiet one woman –
they will NEVER QUIET THE VOICES OF HUNDREDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
routes are not viable
LOC are inflated
no support
LIE are told
income projections are false
“if the plan didn’t work – find another” NO – bought and paid for a franchise that was suppose to have a plan that worked
THAT IS THE DEFINITION OF A FRANCHISE
the “plan” was defective –
if you buy a defective item- you can get it fixed, or return it for a REFUND
I am returning my franchise and want a refund
……………
Good night children.
I don’t know where you get your info but I have never said Jerry was my attorney. I will tell you Jerry knows who I am. So does Mr. Goldstein, Mr. Kassoff, and about 30 other attorneys.

the posts are alot better now, thanks admin for your warning. it seems to have improved things alot.
debbie- your posts are better and more positive, handg in there girl and dont take things personal from some of these ———. it will be alright. stay positive and keep on going foward.
This site is not about slandering each other, this site is about problems each of us had with matco, and that is alot. Each one of us had similiar problems with matco, district and regional managers, they sold a bill of goods, which is no good, lied to us, made false promises, my d.m never seeded my route, i went with another d.m. and we did only two days and I thought my d.m. was going to seed the rest of the days and never did.I was given income projections by a d.m.
who helped me , because my d.m was too busy. Please continue to state the problems, each of us had with matco, let everyone know, ignore the ones coming on here trying to derail us. We all have been affected in on one way or another,
IF YOU HAVE BEEN AFFECTED IN ANY WAY, YOU NEED TO HIRE AN ATTORNEY, YES WE WOULD LIKE FOR IT TO BE JERRY, BUT IF NOT ALEAST
HIRE A FRANCHISE ATTORNEY.
Remember, to look at the legalities in your state regarding repos, I dont want to see anyone in the slammer.
Keep posting, continue to tell everyone, lets put a stop to the matco deceitfullness.
4. Each Matco franchisee has his own exclusive territory identified by the District Business Manager through surveys and customer interviews — the exact size of which varies depending on the number of potential customers in the area.Matco reserves the right to cut your route or change as necessary.
5. Every franchise owner receives a protected “List of Calls,” which contains at least 325 potential customer names and contact information. This helps eliminate time-consuming cold calls, while increasing productivity and sales.-some road techs that you will never see and shops where d.m. just calls and never visited shop.
9. All prospective franchisees are invited to attend a Discovery Day at Matco’s corporate headquarters in Stow, Ohio, before making their final decision- I was never offered.
17. Refresher Course (scheduled six weeks after the start of business) – This training serves as a refresher course on all aspects of the Matco franchise business.- I was never offered a refresher course.
These came from another franchise site called FRANCHISE CHATTER.

wonder how many MORE can say the same???
Debbie. I know I can.
to quiet tonight whats up failure does not ride on this train
Keep posting, we are doing great at gettin the word out. Look in your old ufoc and call the terminated distributors. I jumped on a snapon truck and told him about this site.I think the supporters are finally on the other page. Look at how far we have gotten and how far we will get, we have people listening and looking at this site. We need to get hold of the other terminated distributors and let them know, we need more traffic, tell your techs at shops and be heard, if the techs see how we were treated by matco, we can see some change coming.
We need everyone on board for the train ride to stow, we can make a difference and we will. Lets keep rolling and stand tall , be heard and stand for change.
It is against the law in Florida to do repos, so make sure to research your state laws before doing a repo. You must be licensed in Florida to do a repo. Thanks matco for having me break the law.
Here’s a scenario: it’s 2008. You’ve lost your job. The economy sucks. Jobs are few. You’d love to be in business for yourself—if only the right opportunity were there. And there it is—bingo! A Matco Tools franchise!
Franchising has always had its allure—just invest upfront, play by the rules, and watch the money roll in. Sounds like a no-brainer. Assuming the franchise is a successful one.
And therein lies the rub of the Matco Tools class action lawsuit that’s been filed. TD Bank’s also in on this one—as a defendant.
The lawsuit, filed by David Villano III and his father, David Villano, Jr., alleges that Matco Tools and TD Bank (Commerce Bank at the time—TD Bank has since acquired Commerce) conspired to make Matco Tools franchise opportunities appear a bit rosier than perhaps they really are. The idea, the lawsuit claims, was that by inflating the appearance of Matco’s annual performance projections, lenders would approve small business loans, allowing the sale of the franchise to the franchisee.
Only thing was, the class action lawsuit claims, that the soon-to-be-franchisees weren’t shown those inflated projections—and so they received their loans and set off to start what they thought was a viable business. Hell, if the bank loaned the money, it must be viable, right? However, according to the lawsuit, that business was destined to fail and the money never should’ve been lent in the first place. Financial fraud? Where have we heard that before…?
According to an article that ran in the New York Post a while back, loans to Matco franchisees had a default rate of 37 percent in 2004. That compares to an eleven-year average Small Business Administration (SBA) loan default rate of 11.64% according to a study done by the Coleman Report. Something seem a bit screwy? (forgive the tool pun…)
Ahh, but you ask, wouldn’t the bank have raised a red flag or denied the loan? Well, here’s the thing—small business loans are granted by SBA-approved lenders who in turn receive an SBA guarantee on the loan in the event of default. Bottom line: if the loan then defaults, the lending bank can recoup its losses up to the amount of the SBA guarantee. Not a bad deal, eh?
And for Matco, the allegations would mean they could simply re-sell the franchise once the initial franchisee defaulted.
So, the bank would allegedly reap the interest paid on the loan prior to default—with minimal risk, and Matco would allegedly get to basically flip its franchises.
And, if you’re one of those franchisees caught in the middle of it all, that just might make you flippin’ mad.
So franchise, business and estate attorneys Marks & Klein are representing the plaintiffs, and the class action has been filed. Stay tuned.
tommy 2 got shut down in gville one was craig lost his wife and his house got nothing back off what he sent back. the other was doizer d top 50 for 3 years in a row also lost wife and house also dp shut him down. doizer works in a tire shop in st augistine i already talked to craig keep going forward
MDAC – Matco Damage Assesment & Control
Verified! Two dIstributors, both MDAC reps have
been communicating with me. Both are very supportive
and understand completely what us happening.
Both have shared the same stories.
Don’t be fooled! MDAC serves Matco NOT the
Distributor!
MDAC is in place for “show” – only to “appear” to hear
problems from distributors
*Think about it! What could possibly be resolved when only
meeting twice a year?*
Instead- I Am TOLD by MDAC reps – Matco uses
those meetings to find ways Matco can make more money!
Overstock or boxes with build errors – SHIP it from Jamestown!
Customer might bitch, but maybe will take. We can offer a credit if
need – still cheaper than doing over,
ONE example- I have it on VERY good authority – the toolbox
plant Routinely ships errors- that way box is received
OnTime- but oh, just a mistake they sent the wrong stuff
Just ONE example, More TI come ;-)
Question???
How many distributors, multiplied by how many times and
how much money ????
How much money has Matco short changed distributors
on Warranty Returns???
Average 10%???
$500 every month sent in for warranty
$50 times 12 months= $600/ per DBR per year
$600 x 1500 DBR = $900,000/year! Wow
AND Every DBR HAS been shorted !!!
this is directed at matco#1 i live in Florida and i know the ins and out of the repo game here. FYI according to mily it is one of the hardest states to repo in. long story short if the customer does not release the tools willingly, it is theft. i was almost arrested for this once.
Sam Ole, you are 100 percent correct, you must also have a license, call the numbers I have listed above, they will verify.
Mike, you need to try and get hold of Dozier and Alan Rhodes out of Lake City. He
was kicked out by pritchett, also.
Debbie, I will call you later, I have some info for you.
If someone could send me an up to date UFOC, I would be glad to make some calls because, the one I have is outdated.I just need the terminated section of it.
WTF, Tommy Cheung? You have been crying the blues forever…I told you years ago to go get a job and make sure it’s working for someone that has good handle on you. You need constant direction and someone needs to follow up on your activities.
As for the other failures as a Matco Tools DBR this business is up to you to make it or break it. The program is actually straight forward. Follow it and it works. I’ve owned two trucks with Matco and been a DM and I can’t count how many failures there are due to not following the plan. Are there bad DM’s? You bet. But it’s up to you to identify this fast and move up the chain to the RM. Matco DM’s have plan to follow themselves and if they don’t it means they fail not you.
All this blaming DM’s, routes, and pricing is bullshit. There are plenty of successful DBR’s with crappy DM’s. And a route is made up of mechanics, and they all have the potential to buy like on any route, it’s up to you to get them to want what you offer. And price? If price were truly the issue then how the hell is Snap On still in business?
One last thought and you cry babies can attack…how many of you attended EVERY expo? Sales meetings? And how many of you bought into the programs and actually promoted them like they were intended? Don’t answer, because you need to ask yourself these very questions. It isn’t as simple as saying “I asked my DM for help and he never gave it to me.” NO DM WILL EVER BE RESPONSIBLE FOR MY MONEY, MY FAMILY, OR MY FUTURE. I AM.”
Wake up.
Amen Junior!
There are HUNDREDS of distributors that are now out of business.
There are fundamental issues with Matco Tools that need to be addressed so that more can succeed.
Obviously, some do………..
Sadly, MORE don’t. If only one or two distributors failed – this wouldn’t be an issue. However; distributors are failing in mass. According to Matco’s own documents about 47% fail.
There are some very emotional responses – I can certainly understand those that LOST have strong feelings………….
What makes me wonder, those “successful” distributors that are SO passionate about their success and SO passionate to berate the failed distributors. SO passionate and convinced Matco could have no part.
Are they simply putting their heads in the sand?
Do they have no empathy?
If you don’t stand up for your rights – you will get stepped on. Make a little noise, it is your constitutional right – FREE SPEECH (maybe you have heard of it) In any case, big companies will bully – because they know the ‘little guy’ can’t afford to fight them. Strength in numbers people.
