We received the following franchise warning about the MATCO TOOLS franchise opportunity. According to commenter “TOMMY CHEUNG” :
“STAY AWAY FROM MATCO TOOLS. THEY WILL SELL YOU A BILL OF GOODS,WHICH IS NO GOOD.
“RUMOR HAS IT ,MATCO MAKES MORE MONEY SIGNING NEW FRANCHISES THAN THEY DO TAKING CARE OF THEIR CURRENT ONES.
“DARYL PRITCHETT AND MIKE RAMEY WORK TOGETHER TO SIGN YOU UP AND THEN KICK YOU TO THE CURB. I AM WORKING ON A LAWSUIT AGAINST MATCO, HOPING TO TURN IT INTO A CLASS ACTION SUIT. YOU MAY CONTACT JERRY MARKS AT MARKS AND KLEIN LAW FIRM AT [redacted], IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.
“I INVESTED ALOT OF MONEY IN MATCO AND AFTER 3.5 YEARS THEY SHUT ME DOWN. WHEN THE ECONOMY SLOWED IN 2008,THEY PUT ME OUT OF BUSINESS.
“I ALSO SPOKE TO A PREVIOUS EXECUTIVE, WHO CALLED ME, AND STATED THATS THE WAY MATCO DOES BUSINESS. STAY AWAY FROM MATCO TOOLS AND RUN LIKE HELL WHEN YOU SEE THEM. I REPEAT DO NOT BUY OR INVEST IN MATCO TOOLS…”
Marks & Klein is a legitimate franchise law firm that often represents franchisees in lawsuits against their franchisors, but we haven’t verified with them whether a lawsuit against Matco Tools is in the works or not.
WHAT DO YOU THINK? IS MATCO TOOLS A GOOD FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY, A FAIR FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY OR A FRANCHISE SCAM?

All active franchisees were invited to participate in the survey. 746 franchise owners elected to participate (approximately 51%). The survey was completed on December 2010.
This was posted in business franchise review, What happened to the rest of the distributors? Thats right, matco kicked them to the curb or they were not happy enough to fill out the survey.
Yet another business fact for guest and tommy boy
‘Staggering’ rise in business failures recorded in Q4 2008
Huge rise in business failures for final quarter of 2008 accentuates gloomy outlook for 2009.
By News Desk
13th January 2009 at 14:51
Unsurprising, but disturbing nonetheless, is an 18.2% year-on-year rise in business failures during 2008 according to data released today by Equifax.
These figures add to the gloomy picture set out by the British Chambers of Commerce today which described the situation for small and medium-sized businesses as ‘frightening’.
On releasing the figures, Equifax’s Neil Munroe stressed that:
efforts from Government, such as the loan guarantee scheme announced today and the initiatives by banks such as fixing fees and releasing more credit, will be absolutely crucial, especially for smaller businesses struggling with cashflow management.
Figures for the final quarter of 2008 make for particularly hard reading with a Q4 increase in the number of businesses going into administration hitting 24.2%.
The region suffering most right now appears to be the North East which saw a ‘staggering’ 57.8% increase in businesses going bust in the last quarter of last year
So in theory, was Matco that far off of the average business failures nationwide??????
CHECKOUT PROGRAMCRITIQUE.COM MORE COMPLAINTS.
Relentless – you described them perfectly
I especially can relate to “show no emotion and lie
to your distributor”. It INFURIATES me!
Sat in MY home and spoon fed lie after lie!
Immoral
Wrong
Deceitful
Etc. ;(
tommy, “or they were not happy enough to fill out the survey” ? Come on now if a unhappy dbr was given the chance to fill out a survey on how unhappy they were, i think they would sure fill that out.. dont you?

I pulled this off of another website.
You want the truth guest2 and Matco#1, You can’t handle the truth.
We distributors live in a world where Matco District Managers tell us one thing and do another.
Where route surveys are fabricated and head counts inflated.
Where one distributor can go where ever he wants and others can only go where Matco wants him to go.
Where District meetings force you to buy tools you don’t need.
Where when you ask for help you get rejected.
Where MDAC meetings do nothing.
Where Distributors have everything to lose and Matco just pockets the money.
If Matco is here to help us I’d prefer you to give examples how.
Not just get on here and antagonize and provoke the very air I breathe.
I wish Distributors had a relation of integrity, honor, loyalty and commitment with their DM’s.
But I live in an imaginary world where peace and harmony cannot coexist between Distributors and DM’s.
THEY COULD HAVE BEEN AT A POINT WHERE MATCO WAS SCREWING THEM AND THEY DIDN’T GIVE A SH_T. KEEP POSTING AND AGAIN, THANKS ADMIN.
Tommy isn’t program critique same as this website?
LETS SEE ONE IS UNHAPPYFRANCHISEE.COM AND THE OTHER IS PROGRAMCRITIQUE.COM, THATS TWO DIFFERENT COMPANIES AND TWO DIFFERENT WEBSITES.
Because I am a Matco Franchise Failurrrrrrrrre
Relentless…
I can handle the truth, the truth being the failures I have seen by dbrs in my own district have come from lack of money management, divorce, failure to work, alcoholism….etc.
I happen to have a great relationship with my dm, rm. Buit no one likes a whiner or complainer. If you are going to complain you should have a solution to the problem(was taught that by my grandfather) If you look at the figuires provided by guest and tommyboy they contain the truth about failure. Less than 25% of all dbrs losing their business was due to termination. The majority was due to distributor failure…….and I covered the failures I have seen in the last 3 years in my own district. Maybe with a more positive attitude you too would still be profitable and in business.
Debbie,
Read your FDD, it contains the answers to what happens when you fail.
Oh and Toomyboy I fill out very few surveys.. no time
Tommyboy,
you never specified what color of toaster???
Relentless, have been going to sales meetings for over a decade and NOBODY ever forced me to buy tools. It’s funny how people who fail always have an excuse, it’s always someone elses fault. If I fail it’s my fault, if I take tools from a meeting and can’t sell them it’s my fault. I have a list of calls like everyone else and I spend time at every shop, the problem is a lot of guys that fail in this business don’t. They walk up to each guy “hey you don’t need anything this week do ya?” then they are done by 2 in the afternoon so they start calling their dm asking for new shops. Example of a lot of guys that pretend to be a tool salesman and FAIL in this business!
Why would Matco offer a franchise to someone who has no sales experience?
Two different sites but are they two different companies, are we past 900 yet….I want to be the 1000 post…
What do you think a DM had to say to get that Matco Franchisee prospect to get him to quit turning wreches or leave a computer.
Liar, Liar, Liar
If you didnt offer that franchise that would be discrimination………….
Back to the problem, matco, how many distributors have been kicked out by matco?Numbers speak for themselves. How many people had their lives changed forever by matco’s lies, promises, and decietfulness? The word is out and people are looking, and if we can stop one more potential distributor from being devastated, then we done our job. I want my toaster to be green and smell like money.lol
If mine told me you shouldn’t do this because I am going to get fired in your 2nd year by a new Regional Manager who will come to you and threaten your franchise if you don’t surrender customers I gave you. I would not be on this web site today.
lets look at your termination numbers tommy…see earlier post
Tommy was right about ignoring these chumps.
guest2 quotes failure statistics from the British Chambers of Commerce as if they’re relevant. They’re not even pretending to make a point anymore. Yet they’ll be on until 2 am… i guess Internet porn doesn’t do it for them anymore.
No way these guys are successful dbrs. they’ve got to be wasting the time of some clueless employer.
Ignore them and they’ll have to get more extreme to get attention then they’ll likely get banned.
Please don’t feed the trolls.
no im mutitasking. making money while making you mad. n At least I can do math guest.
some of us are on west coast time. 11 = 2
And why wouldnt canadian statistics matter. There are dbrs in canada also
Tommy this is Matco #1, to answer your question and using facts from guest about 45 franchises are terminated every year….or 3% of Matco Dbrs.
Speaking of wasting time of some clue less employer where the hell is Tommy boys boss. Tommy you on the Obama payroll?
Nope guest my own boss and love it. No partners to worry about like the case with some firms, always worried the other guys aren’t pulling their own weight
Guest…. I think I am off probation and as long as I state facts and you state facts then I can prove you and Tommy dont use facts and aleays avoid answering questions. remember I am in the business, besides a signature you were never so it’s easy for me, for you it’s a struggle.
Now I have a question, to the failed, the failing, and even the successful that are around. Mostly to the failed and failing though. How can you spend so much time on this website posting rather than running your business? If you blame Matco for you being under the 80% do you think you could make some sort of change by not spending so much time online?
Or rather than posting questions for other angry people to answer that supports your view look it up in your paperwork, or call and ask the people that really know the answer?
Relentless how many technicians have you heard say this, man I am tired of turning wrenches”. Answer a lot 90% of new starts are ex technicians.
Anon how is your day going? You selling some stuff today? Been a killer tp day today, no boxes yet this week.
Whoa hold on, “guest” TP are accounts that customers owe you money for, they don’t owe Matco, you will not be charged back, you just need to make sure you show up everyweek to collect, its basically a tool guys paycheck, I believe the fdd mentions this, sorry Anon got distracted.
I sit behind a desk all day, I have plenty of time to blog, talk bad about matco, and talk to obama, by the way I am always in contact with Jerry. I have sent garage journal an e-mail, so hopefully I will be able to save a technician’s livelihood. I will also be e-mailing all the tech sites.
No matco#1 its been a great tp sales day. No boxes but who cares when your at 2k with shops to go. This site just fires me up to sell more.
“Debbie,
Read your FDD, it contains the answers to what happens when you fail.
no, just tells me I will be charged back
NO MENTION OF WHAT HAPPENS AS FAR AS THE CUSTOMER IS CONCERNED ,
DOES HE GET A LETTER – IS HE TOLD TO PAY THE DISTRIBUTOR
Thankfully, Tom gave me some insight
I KNEW THEY HAD TO BE DOUBLE DIPPING
and…………….. wow, hard as it IS – (and maybe as STUPID as it is – I’m STILL trying
to stay alive in this game)
so, when was my LAST – oh Hell I’m still writing them
WHY am I so worried??? GEEZ – read the posts – I can already feel the boot print on my butt!!!!!!!! ONLY a matter of time – and it will come for me
it will come for you
it comes around for EVERYBODY
THAT IS THE REASON FOR THIS SITE – SYSTEMATIC FRAUD – MATCO NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE
No that would be systematic culling of the lower echelon. Trying to improve service.
Debbie,
winners never quit
quitters never win
attitude is everything
So dont worry about ramifacations of failure until you fail
or you are doomed to fail
theres 2100 in tp Matco#1
Debbie you are such a LIAR, I just called Matco, once they charge you back they no longer collect on the PSA, now the rep couldn’t tell me about a letter and the supervisor I’d in a meeting, so later tonight I will waste 5 more minutes of my life answering a question for you.
The reason we are on here is to show the world you and Tommy boy post unfactual information. Tommy tell Jerry I said hi
Right there with you brother!!!!
Goodnight guest, … our offices are closed now , please call during normal business hours.
Let me get this straight…………………..guest2 writes a reply to himself- matco1 (formerly guest3)……….every once in awhile guest17 (also former guest1) chimes in so he can answer his own posts as guest69………….all (1) of you pathetic losers should just change your name to Cybil.
All the attempts to derail the topic are so transparent.
Gary….another unfactual statement.
I was never guest1, was guest3, tried to be guest69 but got spanked by admin. But I am currently MATCO#1. I am not guest17, all of this can be confirmed by admin. Guest1 and guest17 are NOT me.
De-rail, no Gary it’s called spreading the truth!
Admin you have my permission to tell gary I am not guest1 or guest17
i am guest2. Not trying to derail, just want to spread the truth
Debbie you said
WHY am I so worried??? GEEZ – read the posts – I can already feel the boot print on my butt!!!!!!!! ONLY a matter of time – and it will come for me
it will come for you
it comes around for EVERYBODY
Well it seems like Matco has only terminated about 45dbrs a year(thank you guest for the info)
The rest have failed and quit on their own.

No way these guys are successful dbrs. they’ve got to be wasting the time of some clueless employer.
Well guest I have over 650,000 reasons to show you that I am a dbr.
Nice! Guest2. Are you at 80% npa…lol.
I meant to say do you purchase 80% on a daily basis.
I mean that’s it…only 650,000?
I’m well over double of the 80% of npa rule. Almost triple so no worries. See all my shops every week drive a new truck
Guest2 you know who I miss, Kevin and Cary we need to get them back on here. I need some advice, today I sold a md1052, md1032, and a can400 but I can’t sell that md1072 to save my life
Matco#1 I miss them too. You need to Target an existing Md1052 customer with a upgrade.
******PERFECT*****
That was EXACTLY the intention of http://www.ladymatco.com!!!!!!!!!!
maybe you guys could get together there
OR here’s an IDEA
MAYBE – exchange PHONE NUMBERS
OR maybe – a NATIONAL DATABASE?????
that way we could ALL communicate???
An exchange of ideas, advice, help.
oh wait, Tom Willis wouldn’t like that!
Because, when distributors started talking they realized HOW MANY OF THEM HAD BEEN SCREWED BY MATCO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So much so, TOM WILLIS had to tell EVERY distributor NOT to join a Distributor’s Association – he said, not to talk to each other, but to contact Matco
SERIOUSLY???? what, get put on hold, so long the call drops, or better yet, delegated to the GENERAL EMAIL BOX and HOPE you get an answer within 2 HOURS
WORSE – I’ve said for the past 2 1/2 years Customer Service reminds me of my son when he was LITTLE – his standard operating procedure was
“badger til you get the answer you want”
With Customer Service,
call twice – get 2 different answers
call 3X – get 3 different answers
call your DM- GET “I DON’T KNOW” AS AN ANSWER
