We received the following franchise warning about the MATCO TOOLS franchise opportunity. According to commenter “TOMMY CHEUNG” :
“STAY AWAY FROM MATCO TOOLS. THEY WILL SELL YOU A BILL OF GOODS,WHICH IS NO GOOD.
“RUMOR HAS IT ,MATCO MAKES MORE MONEY SIGNING NEW FRANCHISES THAN THEY DO TAKING CARE OF THEIR CURRENT ONES.
“DARYL PRITCHETT AND MIKE RAMEY WORK TOGETHER TO SIGN YOU UP AND THEN KICK YOU TO THE CURB. I AM WORKING ON A LAWSUIT AGAINST MATCO, HOPING TO TURN IT INTO A CLASS ACTION SUIT. YOU MAY CONTACT JERRY MARKS AT MARKS AND KLEIN LAW FIRM AT [redacted], IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.
“I INVESTED ALOT OF MONEY IN MATCO AND AFTER 3.5 YEARS THEY SHUT ME DOWN. WHEN THE ECONOMY SLOWED IN 2008,THEY PUT ME OUT OF BUSINESS.
“I ALSO SPOKE TO A PREVIOUS EXECUTIVE, WHO CALLED ME, AND STATED THATS THE WAY MATCO DOES BUSINESS. STAY AWAY FROM MATCO TOOLS AND RUN LIKE HELL WHEN YOU SEE THEM. I REPEAT DO NOT BUY OR INVEST IN MATCO TOOLS…”
Marks & Klein is a legitimate franchise law firm that often represents franchisees in lawsuits against their franchisors, but we haven’t verified with them whether a lawsuit against Matco Tools is in the works or not.
WHAT DO YOU THINK? IS MATCO TOOLS A GOOD FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY, A FAIR FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY OR A FRANCHISE SCAM?

guest2: “Trying to figuire out why you would want to buy a new truck on a 1900 purchase average?”
These guys never quit trying to divert from the main point, do they?
Somebody could be walking on the street and have an office building fall on them and guest2’s reaction would be: “I’m just trying to figure out why he walked down 2nd street instead of 3rd street. I myself always take 3rd street and I have never had a building fall on me. Maybe if he had been smart, like me, and walked down 3rd street he wouldn’t be lying under a mountain of rubble!”
:) lame, lame, lame.
Thank you Tom – CONFIRMED what I thought all along!
Tom wrote: “I have heard that MATCO “insures” each new “Matco financed” new DBR against failure to a tune of MORE than what they actually loan!!!!”
That’s what I’m wondering. Where did you hear that? Perhaps an insider can blow the whistle on how that works. Or maybe it’s disclosed in Danaher’s public info somewhere.
Or maybe it will come out in “discovery” when Jerry gets the war wagon rolling.
I would not be surprised if it turns out they make more money off failures than moderate successes. Otherwise, why churn & burn those who are or were successful?
Debbie why you so worried whe was your last contract wrote?
Guest2, your right, your the one that made the comment, and you also stated “you try not to break any signed contract”
I’m sure you tried, but given the way the contract is written, most likely failed at some point.
Just sent entrepeuneur magazine an e-mail to check out this site. I ask that they review this site before ranking matco tools.
It’s funny how some post hearsay, others post facts, guest, Gary just like to throw things out there with no factual content, yep Tommy I am sure they will look at the sight, I think that company basis their ranking on facts not hearsay.
“I think that company basis their ranking on facts not hearsay”
If by facts you mean advertising $$$, I’m sure you’re correct.
Tommy:
It says their franchise 500 ranking is published in January so I’m sure the ranking is already done. And, remember, they don’t take franchisee unrest, failures, and lawsuits into account (guest2&3 must have helped them with their criteria!).
I think we should do an email campaign if they even rank them in the top 500, given that they have one of the worst SBA failure rates in all of franchising and will soon have 1000+ angry comments here from burned dbrs.
Tom writes “I have heard” guest writes “I think” Debbie writes “what happens”, Tommy went out in 2008 and thinks he knows things but the thing you all have in common is No Facts to support your thinking or your hearing.
So Tommy were you on vacation?
Actually, MATCO#1, it was you who wrote ““I think..”
I was quoting you.
So much for thinking…
Gary can you explain what churnover is. And once again your math sucks too 200 that leave the business out of 1400 don’t think that’s 49%, but just keep up the lying.
Garyyou say that Jerry showed you the signed Sworn statements I know what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, I thought there was a confidentiality clause for attorneys and their clients too, are you saying that Jerry is unethical?
MATCO#1 knows full well that the 49% came from this report which is based on Matco’s own numbers:
MATCO TOOLS Franchise Report Alleges Distributor Churning
http://www.unhappyfranchisee.com/matco-tools-franchise-distributor-churning/
“During the three year period from 1/1/08 to 12/31/10, seven hundred fifteen (715) Distributors, forty nine percent (49%) of the total number of MATCO Tools Distributorships open at any time during the period, left the MATCO system.
Of that 715, only fifty (50) transferred their MATCO Tools business to third party franchisees. Of the remaining six hundred and sixty five (665) Distributors who left the MATCO Tools system, five hundred thirty one (531) closed their Distributorships, and one hundred thirty four (134) had their distributorships terminated. If a MATCO Tools distributor desired to exit the system during this three year period, and hoped to sell its business through a MATCO approved transfer, that franchisee had less than a seven percent (7%) chance of success. Statistically speaking, such a low success rate indicates that the MATCO Tools businesses run by distributors who were leaving the MATCO system were so unprofitable as to be unmarketable.
MATCO Tools has, nonetheless, continued to offer and sell Distributorships despite the pattern of early failure.”
This has been posted before so you know full well the numbers are valid.
(Really wish the OBCs would up their game just a bit…)
Guest always thinking but when I post numbers I make sure they are factual
Guest quit calling me old. That’s 16.33 percent per year during the worst economic times since the depression. Wonder what percentage of jobs disappeared in the same time frame??????
I wonder how many of those 7% guys were ex Snap-On distributors who came back after filing bankruptcy to their hometown to sell for Matco in the route they just terminated a Distributor in?
well heres some reading
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — The hemorrhaging of American jobs accelerated at a record pace at the end of 2008, bringing the year’s total job losses to 2.6 million or the highest level in more than six decades.
A sobering U.S. Labor Department jobs report Friday showed the economy lost 524,000 jobs in December and 1.9 million in the year’s final four months, after the credit crisis began in September.
thats for 2008
So kicking to the curb…. Hmmm in a three year period Matco terminated guys like former who didn’t want to service ALL of his customers, and only purchased 2000 a week in tools, to a tune of 45 guys per year, or 3% of franchises a year are terminated. Guest you don’t fire people in your firm?
Matco just wishes they could sell as many tools as us and keep their Distributors as happy as I am. I feel sorry for Matco Distributors. Looks like you found the right guy to take care of the situation though. He did for us.
You guys make a really compelling case for buying a Matco Tools franchise.
I bet you’re inspiring a whole bunch of new ad headlines for recruitment of the 2012 replacements:
“Invest in Matco Tools: We’re declining at a slower rate than the US economy!”
“”Invest in Matco Tools: Lots of businesses fail. Why not do it with us?”
“Pay no attention to that homeless guy in the Matco shirt. Guest2/3 say Matco is #1! I’m sure he just didn’t want success bad enough!”
Be sure the Marketing Dept. buys you a couple extra lettuce wraps for your inspirational contributions!

WASHINGTON | Wed Oct 6, 2010 5:03pm EDT
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The economy likely shed more jobs last year than previously thought, but analysts say the undercount by the government should prove less severe than it did during depths of the recession.
The Labor Department on Friday will give an initial estimate of how far off its count of employment may have been in the 12 months through March. The government admitted earlier this year that its count through March 2009 had overstated employment by 902,000 jobs
Guest you have me all wrong, I was going to treat, you know like a date.
Guys and Gals, lets stop answering to matco1,guest1,guest2 and so on, they are trying to run you guys in a circle. The numbers speak for themselves and we know matco has a problem. I am referring everyone I can to this site. We did not make up the 49% failure rate, that is their number. Jerry will get them just as he did snapon and they know it.
One question that comes to mind, is if you have a tech in a shop and he is a road tech, on the road all the time, is he considered a viable tech for head count for that shop. If you don’t ever see him, how could you get his ,ss number, meet him, sell him or collect from him? How can that count toward your head count?
The posts are getting higher and higher, cant wait for my toaster to get here, coming from matco, maybe i can toast some matco dollars with it, maybe I can burn them, they way they have burnt us.
guest2 THANK YOU!
Now the truth has come out! guest2 is explaining why distributors who have a “List of Calls” with less than 350 head count in ’08’ can be terminated in 2010 for not being at 80% of the national average of the OBC. Thanks AGAIN!
guest2: As long as you’re quoting CNNMoney, why not post what they said about Matco Tools franchise? Seems a little more relevant to the discussion than 4 year old labor statistics:
“According to CNNMoney.com, the “loan data is from the Small Business Administration, covering loans made from October 2000 through September 2009. The failure rate represents the number of loans in liquidation or charged off, divided by the number of loans disbursed.”
The Matco Tools was deemed the riskiest franchise with a 36% franchise loan default rate.”
Please, post some more irrelevant statistics about unemployment, maybe the loss of manufacturing jobs (like tool production) to Asia, etc. Maybe you can make the discussion so boring people won’t notice that CNNMoney wrote: “The Matco Tools was deemed the riskiest franchise with a 36% franchise loan default rate.”
No keep posting more statistics. Good info for lawsuit against FALSE TERMINATION.
Tommy it’s MATCO#1 not matco1. 49% is not a failure rate some people come into business and decide it’s not for them , it doesn’t mean they failed. You may have failed, but it doesn’t mean other people did.
BTW Tommy MATCO#1 is guest 3 so you won’t see guest3 anymore only MATCO #1 because you have to get permission from admin to do it, and if I kept going back and forth between guest3 and MATCO#1 admin might be upset.
Tommy what brand of toaster do you want?
Guest 36% is hardly the riskiest! That’s better than average how can it be riskiest. By year 10 only 29% of ALL small businesses ate still in business 36% sounds good, but actually a 64% success rate sounds better. Are you an optimist?
Never seen a happy snap on guy before, I guess he doesn’t know that danaher tool group is the largest in the world I always tell my customers to thank my snap on guys for supporting danaher by purchasing fluke, gearwrench, and jacobs products.
Let’s give this the sniff test….guest would a reasonable person believe that all of the sudden a snap on guy would appear on this sight promoting unethical Jerry.
Nope smells like bs to me.
Looks like Cornwell Tools doesn’t want to be left out.
“have been a dealer for almost 3 years and with the economy as bad as it is i was sent a letter saying cornwell is pulling my franchise because i do not purchas enough tools ……i am below 80% of the national adverage……..”
http://www.unhappyfranchisee.com/cornwell-tools-franchise-scam-or-no-scam/
And MAC Tools is also getting slapped by Jerry for fraud:
MAC TOOLS Guilty of Franchise Fraud?
http://www.unhappyfranchisee.com/mac-tools-guilty-of-franchise-fraud/
Can’t anyone run a mobile tool business without shafting their franchisees?
Call Jerry!…lol. Is anyone safe from being sued by Jerry? What do they call those women with no morals and will DO anything for anybody for money… Call ,,, nope can’t say it
No it just means Jerry has found a bunch more people to collect retainers on and persue frivilous law suits!!!! Way to go Tommy Boy for supporting him!!!! Would you like the toaster black, ss, pink….you name it.
Claiming to be the #1 mobile tool seller is kind of like bragging about being the best looking waitress at Denny’s.
Just saying…
I think Tommy doesnt want a REAL discussion and cant answer questions about REAL facts…so he would like to continue with the pity party…. Now what about this, Jerry sues all companies….no one has tool trucks…..now where are the techs going to get service????? Oh thats right they can just call Jerry!!!
Yea I support Jerry and will continue.I will go to great lengths to prove MATCO’S
What kind of person do you need to be to be in Management for Matco?
Wow!
Man you guys must be really threatened by Jerry because you are like little kids that used to bully me around. Oh! Things haven’t changed much since I was a kid. HUH!
anon sense….really now I have to picture that for the rest of the day, you are mean
What relentless.
Boy you guys are quick to sound like you represent Distributors in one breath and in the other give legitment reasons why Distributors have not been at 80% of the National average the last 4 years. Why don’t you fight as hard for those who haven’t been successful due to a failing economy?
Since Matco is #1 and so wonderful why don’t you list some examples of good distributors that Matco has let keep their franchise and help them to succeed?
Oh I know the answer to that one. They could give a rats ass about their Distributors. They just want to make more money to give to Wall Street.
Yea i support Jerry and will continue to. I will go to great lengths to prove
matco’s business dealings are unethical. Sounds like matco supporters are getting testy, its ok, we will help you through it. All the alleged corruption by matco will come out and you will be thanking us. I do have to apologize for them raising tool prices, but they brought this on themselves. Do you honestly think all the numbers are made up out there? Could cnnmoney be wrong, what about the sba,are they wrong too? All these numbers being published, don’t you think they have done their homework? What about the cd made by matco against snapon, did matco not do their homework before publishing that cd? Then they threatened
to pull our franchise if we did not return the cd.Why didn;t dicuado review it before allowing it to be published? I notice alot of our questions are going unanswered, because the OBC club dosen’t know how to answer, I know call dicaudo, he may be able to help.
Matco Management Requirements:
1) Show no emotion when you lie to your Distributor.
2) Tell them one thing and then do another.
3) Ignore appeals for fairness.
4) Give fault to someone else.
5) Type really fast to comment on unhappyfranchisee.com
matco1, just so you know admin won’t do away with me, Iam the one who started this whole discussion. Just look at the top of the page. I will keep discussion on matco’s unethical practices and not sway from it. Thanks ADMIN for all the support.
Thanks SNAPON for giving us your view. I am e-mailing everyone I can. I also e-mailed mac tools.
GOOD JOB RELENTLESS, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
Forgot #6
6) When confronted by a terminated Distributor who is pursuing fairness and wants to resolve his disputes amicably, throw a paper at them to sign which says they will not pursue Matco in court or talk bad about Matco to other people.
All I can say Tommy is that you still have failed to answer any post of any question from me. So why would I attempt to answer yours.
And by the way Im not old for the millionth time. It is successfull dbr club.
guest2 wrote: “All I can say Tommy is that you still have failed to answer any post of any question from me”
Congrats on that, Tommy. Keep up the good work.
Wow! #7
7) Sit on your ass and survey a route instead of seeing if those shops even exist anymore.
8 ) Use your computer to create a new route for franchisee and then find out that route already has a distributor in it.
