SMOOTHIE KING Franchise Complaints

Smoothie King franchise opportunity:  Are you considering it?

The Smoothie King franchise website states: “By buying into a franchise, you have the backing of a recognized brand with a proven track record and business method… Franchising allows you to obtain independence and to be your own boss with far less risk.”

However, data released by the Small Business Administration (SBA) indicates that Smoothie King franchise owners who qualified for SBA-backed franchise loans have a high loan failure rate of 28%.

That qualifies Smoothie King for inclusion in UnhappyFranchisee.com’s list of WORST FRANCHISES IN AMERICA (by SBA loan defaults)

Smoothie King franchise owners have an alarming 28% SBA default rate.

The SBA loan high failure rate of Smoothie King is a franchise red flag.

SBA loans granted since 2001: 62
SBA loan failure rate: 46%
Sources:  Coleman report (SBA)

The inability to repay an SBA-backed loan (or any franchise loan, for that matter) indicates a serious situation for the franchisee.

It’s likely that Smoothie King franchise owners who received SBA loans may have collateralized their franchise loan with their homes or other personal assets, and many were unable to repay those franchise loans… despite the serious incentive to do so.

What do you think accounts for the SBA loan failure rate of Smoothie King franchise owners?

What steps should Smoothie King be taking to stop further franchise failures?

Has Smoothie King taken serious action to address the problems that led to these loan failures?

I visited a smoothie king my greeting was not with a smile our a hello they had one customer besides me they seemed like they were in a rush so to be patient I decided I’d ask if there was a restroom I could use she popped off took me that the restrooms were for customers only then rolled her eyes pointed said back there so I decided right there I wouldn’t not buy a smoothie and told her thank you anyways that was very rude inappropriate way in handling a potential customer and I walked out feeling as if I was not welcome! Location is across from the Original Pancake House at 1909 W. Springfield Ave. Champaign IL. I’m from our of town spending the whole day by myself checking out different places while I wait upon my animal to go through Chemo treatment and I’d like it if this could be rectified because it will cost this business people to turn away not want to go here most restaurants allow you to use the restroom no questions asked that’s one nice way to welcome you without a smile!

Thank you please rectify this problem!

I visited Smoothie King on Indian Lake August 8,2015 ,and a young blonde head male wearing a purple Smoothie King shirt was standing outside, and he tried opening the door ,but the door was locked. I asked the young man was the store closed, and he said no. One of the young ladies unlocked the door. While I was in placing my order one of the young ladies and the young man was throwing change trying to make it go onto the tip jar. Then the young man walked close to the door, and preceded to throw the change, to make a long story short I was hit by the change that

I was hit by the change that the young man threw. They were so unprofessional. And after making my first Smoothie the young man began throwing utensils in the store. I kept my cool, but someone else might handle the situation different. The young that was throwing change with him finally told him to calm down.

Tranesia just handed back my receipt, and kept the change herself I guess. When I asked where’s my change, she said I gave it to u and shut the window. She wouldn’t open the window again. Finally Gary Nail, the manager I guess comes to the window, and he’s just rude as he’ll as if his employee just didn’t jack me for my damn change. Ok maybe she made a mistake. But why should I have to wait for him to call me if after he counts till down later. Count it now! I just gave u a 20. My smoothie was 7.78. Where’s my 12.22. Well I know that till is either over or Tranesia got it! 12 dollars n some change not a lot of money but it’s mine and I just don’t appreciate how it was handled and I don’t recommend anybody give there business to this smoothie king. Well actually it isn’t handled. I’m still waiting on phone call so I can go get my change. Smdh I just wanted my smoothie. I pay u. Bam! U give me back my change. Easy. Simple.

  • I went to smoothie King Riverside n Jacksonville Florida. The manager was working w one employee, this employee was afraid to even say good morning, he had antagonized her so, The manager Brian McCray was the rudest baster l ever came across. I ordered diet down n my smoothie, l then asked for the extra n all hell broke loose, he said if l give u the extra you would have more ounces than u paid for. If anyone gives the extra away they will b fired, so l said you would rather throw it down the drain or drank it himself. He half washed out the containers, a cloudy watery liquid was in d container before he started, because he didnt drain it, in essence you are drinking dirty water n the smoothie, I asked who was the owner BC l was going to make a complaint, he then gave me the store business card with all HIS, information on it, so if l were to make a complaint it would go directly to him. He get all the complaints so they never get anywhere, and I’m sure there are many. I then asked him about the OWNER, he said it’s owned by the POLICE real Curt and nasty. This person will soon put smoothie King out of business. He appears Angry, overworked, stressed, discourteous, unhappy, mean, and mad (a downright pissed Racist,) that you came in. The OWNERS, better get a grip of this fast.

The owings mills Smoothie location serves the worst smoothies. My smoothies literally taste like chalk and are very bland. Today I threw my smoothie away that I purchased and I went to your woodlawn,MD location. They were very polite at the woodlawn location and my smoothie was so good and very refreshing. I tasted the strawberries and bananas. Everything was so fresh. Please close the owings mill they give smoothie king a bad name

Smoothie King is not a good business:

    1. Operational costs are too high: long business hours; food cost like a traditional restaurant;Too many promotions and discounts(a couple hundreds per day);force you to spend: grand opening spening no matter new or old stores; upgrade equipment even not in contract. It seems they never care about store costs.
    2. Mirco-managment: dont’t feel you are a franchisee; anyone in the Smoothie King may call the store and ask to do this or that. Yes, they treat you like a employee.
