Is AMWAY a Scam? See what former Amway IBOs have to say below. Add your own opinion about Amway.

Have you ever had a good friend or close relative join AMWAY (Mary Kay, Herbalife, Quixtar, Meleleuca, Shaklee, USANA, nuskin, or other mlm, multilevel or network marketing scheme) and suddenly become the annoying sales zombie from hell?

The question came from a comment left on the post “IS AMWAY A GREAT BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY?” thirstyfox claims that Amway/Quixtar is a cultlike scam that makes everyone annoyed with her deluded sister:

My sis was in it once, wasted all her time and in the end made little or nothing.

She got back into it recently against everyones advice.  It’s like a cult that turns you against your family so you don’t listen to them. Now she has no time for family, just scamming strangers and wasting her time away with unfullfilled dreams.

The constant meetings are to keep you brainwashed.   It’s all a scam and she knows it herself now as she tries to get others in “under her.”  Hard to see her as a Christian anymore when she does this, and it’s sad to see all the time she loses when she could be raising her kids.

I’ll never understand how she could be so stupid. I asked her why she got in it last time and she said of course money.  Then I asked her what she got out of it and she replied defensivly “I met a lot of very interesting people!”  I think that about says it all and if it didn’t work for my sis it won’t work for anyone.

All the BS they tell you about how well this that and the other person did or is doing is all lies so they can get your money.  98% of all Quixtar products are sold ONLY to stupid Quixtar members themselves, yet they go around saying they own a business???

Don’t give them a second of your time.

What do you think?  Does Multi-level “Network” Marketing consists of stupid, annoying members selling worthless stuff to other stupid, annoying members?  Share your MLM story below.

  • ok, I totally agree with you, but I have never heard of some of the so called Aussie scams you mention. It does not bother me Whether you like those second rate Aussie performers who make it big in America, as most of those you listed apart from The wiggles ceased to be Australians long ago, when they all made it big in the American marketplace, like Rupert Murdoch.I assume for tax reasons and for work reasons, they felt more comfortable with living in America and being American
I am not intending to feud with anyone over whether Australia or America produces more scammers, that is a stupid argument.Almost as stupid as Arguing over Amway.
I read in Wikipedia that Amway is short for American Way and can you imagine the bad message that sends to people overseas when they realize that, given the arrogant boofheads

  • That they send out to promote it. (see above)
(boofhead is a nice Aussie colloquial expression for a certain kind of person The dictionary in my I pad would not accept it for a real word, and so stuffed up my message above I suggest you use it discreetly against Amway supporters. They will never have heard of it, and get touchy when someone reminds them they don't know everything

  • just to make my meaning clear, the original Boofhead was an Australian comic strip character of about fifty years ago.He had about half the IQ of Beavis and Butthead combined, but was a bit more lovable.

  • Petery:
Boofhead! That's a great name for them!
Not sure if "boofing" or "getting boofed" has the same slang connotations down under, but in the U.S. its slang for, how can I say it... rear entry? And not always consensually.
So Boofhead is a fitting term for those who keep getting boofed by Amway yet keep showing up for more, keep paying out for meetings and DVDs, and keep fiercely defending those who are doing the boofing.
OK, I officially take back everything bad I said about Australia.
In exchange for the term "Boofhead," all is forgiven.

  • Yes I had to think for a moment here to really understand your messages. About the whole seminars and meetings thing hey we are just doing what we are told by Amway. They say if you expect to make money or become successful in this Amway business then you have to go to the seminars and pay because they teach you a lot about how to make the most profits.

Yet when I did that here I am not making anything. I make more money at my day job then I make with Amway. Just like when you get a new job you don't know what your doing until they teach you and someone trains you on how to do. If you do the job right that's when you get paid for your work. Amway is almost the same because they tell you what and how to do things and if you do it your supposed to get paid. The only difference between amway and a job out there is that with a real job you do the job correctly and get paid.

With Amway you do the job and do it right but instead of getting the big money they promised you in a few years you end up with barely a paycheck from them and I do everything I am told by the Amway people step by step hoping to get the money I was told. Yet here I am putting in more hours into Amway then I probably need to and yet I don't see the results. Surely if Amway was not a scam millions of Americans more would be into doing this business and we would not be all sitting here saying when is the economy for the US going to get any better.

If Amway does work surely all the other countless websites and videos I have seen of people doing this well someone would have posted proof like a picture of their check or something so I can see that it works. All I see is a ton of people who promote and defend amyway hoping to see that it works when they get nothing out of them.

  • MY SPECIFIC RESPONSE TO OA9!!!!

I can see you are a typical ignorant, angry, most likely uneducated person.
You are wishing me a good luck with working for the next 40 years???
Ok, my family have money, I was just lucky to be born in that kind of family and I DON'T have to work at all, but choose to, as I like it and want for my daughter to see that people should work. I'm also doing my 3rd degree and I'm very down to earth person.
Why is that all the possessed (can't think of a better word) members of AMWAY are so angry? I bet because they already know that they are a losers, but too scared to admit it to themselves.
World will never change. There are NO QUICK WAYS TO MAKE MONEY, UNLESS YOU ARE A GENIUS! Education and hard work, that is the only way you can get somewhere.
I WISH YOU ALL THE LUCK WITH DISCOVERING YOURSELF WHAT IS AMWAY ALL ABOUT....
In the mean time, keep your anger down.....

  • I addtion.....

How primitive all those names? Dimonds, Emiralds, Platinum....

Designed for a very primitive and little mind like OA9!

  • Guys if you want to try something similar to amway but with low prices and a 29, dollar membership call me at [redacted] the company name its melaleuca and here u don't have to sell products just the membership and people buys them because its only 29.00. And they have lower prices that stores have give me a call at [redacted] I sign in 2 friends that were at amway and now they are with melaleuca

  • Wow that is funny Josh. Melaleuca you say? You know whats funny? Is that this is a scam just like Amway! Lol sorry this is funny because my aunt tried to get me to sign up with them and after 10 years of being in the business she found out that all her hard work did nothing so she ended up wasting her time with this so called pyramid scheme. Thanks for the offer but I tried them myself and they are no better then Amway. I stand by my word there is no way to get rich unless you work hard and work your butt off. These amway and melaleuca things are just scams waiting to happen. If they do work then as I said post a check for me to see the proof.

  • Sorry not trying to be mean here. It's just all these things people keep telling me sign up for this or that well I have tried a ton of them for years and none of them have given me results and I read the complaints people who have signed up for have and it leads me to believe this is just another scam.
