We received the following franchise warning about the MATCO TOOLS franchise opportunity.  According to commenter “TOMMY CHEUNG” :

“STAY AWAY FROM MATCO TOOLS. THEY WILL SELL YOU A BILL OF GOODS,WHICH IS NO GOOD.

“RUMOR HAS IT ,MATCO MAKES MORE MONEY SIGNING NEW FRANCHISES THAN THEY DO TAKING CARE OF THEIR CURRENT ONES.

“DARYL PRITCHETT AND MIKE RAMEY WORK TOGETHER TO SIGN YOU UP AND THEN KICK YOU TO THE CURB. I AM WORKING ON A LAWSUIT AGAINST MATCO, HOPING TO TURN IT INTO A CLASS ACTION SUIT. YOU MAY CONTACT JERRY MARKS AT MARKS AND KLEIN LAW FIRM AT [redacted], IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.

“I INVESTED ALOT OF MONEY IN MATCO AND AFTER 3.5 YEARS THEY SHUT ME DOWN. WHEN THE ECONOMY SLOWED IN 2008,THEY PUT ME OUT OF BUSINESS.

“I ALSO SPOKE TO A PREVIOUS EXECUTIVE, WHO CALLED ME, AND STATED THATS THE WAY MATCO DOES BUSINESS. STAY AWAY FROM MATCO TOOLS AND RUN LIKE HELL WHEN YOU SEE THEM. I REPEAT DO NOT BUY OR INVEST IN MATCO TOOLS…”

Marks & Klein is a legitimate franchise law firm that often represents franchisees in lawsuits against their franchisors, but we haven’t verified with them whether a lawsuit against Matco Tools is in the works or not.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?  IS MATCO TOOLS A GOOD FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY, A FAIR FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY OR A FRANCHISE SCAM?

  • NAPA has two levels of tools, NAPA Professional Hand Tools and the lower priced Evercraft. NAPA professional Hand Tools were made by Danaher and were a sightly different version cosmetically from their Craftsman, Allen, K-D, or Armstrong relatives. They are a little pricey compared to their relatives but, they're good tools. However with the recent demise of the hand tool portion of K-D tools, Napa professional Hand Tools are becoming Gearwrench clones. The name is different on the tool but, you can browse through the current real deals flyer or the store and see the similarities. Yes, they are imported from Tawan or the PRC depending on the tool. I look for Craftsman, Allen, and other Danaher/Apex brands to move to being China brands too sadly.
Evercraft tools are the supposedly lower priced line that have always been Taiwan/PRC made. Evercraft is probably better than Harbor Freight and equal to say Powerbilt or Duralast and parts stores house tool brands.
If you can find used US made NAPA professional hand tools at a decent price, I would pick them up. They will serve you well but, just remember that they're basically better finished Craftsman tools so, don't spend a lot of money.

  • Don't sweat about having posts removed from Matco's FB page. It seems that techs all across the land know what is going on BEHIND the curtain ! I think we will be seeing MORE & MORE of these quotes in the future.

"We need a rep in Iowa city iowa again!"

"Were can I find a dealer? I need to get a few new tools and I dont see a dealer finder on your website."

"How do I inquire on the location of a representative in the Philadelphia, MS area?"

"I work at Highway Diesel Services in Tucson Arizona, and we need a Matco dealer in our shop, numerous calls to the district manager has falling on deaf ears"

"I Work At Regency Tire & Auto and We need A Matco Man To Come By We Haven't Seen One For About 3 Or 4 Years Please Send One By Thanks"

"I work at a shop in RACINE WI and can never get a matco tools truck to stop in, i am not the only one that has tried, i am just curious is there a matco dealer around the Wisconsin area? or what is it going to take to get one to come around?"

"I need a dealer in Lafayette LA!!"

"I wish we had a Matco Distributor in the Louisville, KY area!!! Hard to buy their tools if you can't find someone that sells them!! I keep getting the run around about finding a distributor. Can anybody help me with this?"

"I am a contractor, too busy to be a distributor. SNAP ON is looking better all the time. I see their trucks everywhere!!!!! I use to see Matco trucks everywhere!!!!!"

"Who is the Matco tools distributor for Manassas Virginia?"

and one savvy customer who can REALLY see through the smoke and mirrors.......

"Matco screws over their dealers. They've got some dirty business going on behind closed doors."

  • So full of himself...........
.............LITTLE man can't even allow another distributor to accept a COMPLIMENT
without putting him down for something, oh, hail LITTLE man,

    Jeffrey Connor
I want to vote for kent Beauchamp as dealer of the year. He always there to help when we need him thanks kent for all u do

    Jason Neil
Jeffrey, Kent is awesome you are correct too bad he has a freightliner....lol tell him i said peterbilts rule....

  • Jason always has to try and come out looking better than anyone else, he can not praise anyone without having something negative to say.

  • Are we talking about Jason-Wanna-be-aint-never-gonna-be-Neil

The same jason that has QUIT Matco twice while calling others failures

    The #1 Antron suckup

Like Antron (class act) says, lots of great fans out there and a couple creepy ones

  • Unfortunately, there are many more autocratic franchise systems that enforce one sided franchise agreements that disrespect franchisee rights and interests, or that otherwise disdain meaningful collaboration and sharing of the fruits of the franchise system’s fortunes. Not surprisingly, such systems are finding it increasingly difficult to attract ‘A’ list prospects.

    ...........WOW, sounds way too familiar

Matco did NOT want a Distributor Association because they solely want to control EVERYTHING! Which, to date, they are accomplishing

Which, in the NEAR FUTURE they will NOT..............strength in numbers

Secondly, Matco did NOT want a Distributor Association because ALL THE TERMINANTED, WRONGED, MIS TREATED DISTRIBUTORS WOULD COME FORWARD...........AS THEY HAVE

Well, Matco, you may be able to delete posts on your self stroking web site

    BUT, I haven't, and I WON'T go away!!!

    What now???

  • i can remember when i got my initial inventory that there was a few craftsman sockets in it and one time i ordered a wrench rack from matco and it came in with snap-on on it. the same people are making the same things, just putting different labels and prices too.
when i was turning wrenches, my boss also owned the napa store. every so often a crew of people would come in and rebox different things. i found out that it was because they changed vendors. so they would just change the boxes on the inventory already in the store. different brand name but the same stuff from another vendor. its all a racket it seems. thats part of the reason there are no jobs. they have all been sent overseas. pretty soon there will be free sushi with every toolbox purchase.

  • I hope everyone enjoyed reading matco;s facebook last nite , we will do everything to keep it interesting and to point out how matco treats people, including employees, distributors and technicians.

    MATCO DOES NOT CARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
