The It’s Just Lunch franchise dating service website calls itself the “the first date specialists,” and claims to “arrange quality lunch dates and drinks after work for busy professionals in a discreet, no-pressure setting.”  itsjustlunch

Its claim to fame is the exclusive nature of its high-calibre clients and its extensive, personal matching process.  And it charges big bucks for its dating services.

Is It’s Just Lunch dating service a scam?  If you’ve had experiences with IJL, good or bad, please share them below.

Tami, who claims to be a bikini model, definitely thinks It’s Just Lunch is a scam, and she’s trying to get her $1800 fee refunded.

Tami states:

I am demanding a full refund from “It’s Just Lunch”. They have completely failed to provide even 10% of what was described to me by their then number one “Matchmaker” through numerous phone calls and meetings. They have completely misrepresented their services and available clientele. After signing onto their service I went on a total of “SEVEN” Matched Meetings.

I allowed them the opportunity to ‘Work their Magic’ but was completely disappointed on every occasion. I called after every meeting and explained why the person chosen was nothing like what they said they had available to me and what my specific needs were and promised by them to deliver, were not even close. I was incredibly unhappy and gave detailed information as to what was wrong and missing only to be told each time they understood and would guarantee I would be very happy with the next person they had for me. I ended up going through three separate “Matchmakers” who were all highly trained and skilled in their profession, to finally tell them they do not and have not even come close to the contract we agreed on as to what they had to offer and provide.

I refuse to continue with a service that has completely misrepresented what they are and what they promise to deliver. I gave them many opportunities and all of their chosen “Matches” were nothing like the description of available men described. They did not and do not have the people promised and they did not provide this extensive “Matchmaking” Service that only professionally trained Matchmakers can provide.

Their described service is a scam, I don’t believe they went any further than taking files from a file cabinet not even looking at the names and put them together. Maybe they used a dart board where the same two colored darts hit and were then said to be a match. I am well beyond disappointed with their promises and performance, as you can see and demand a full refund based on their complete misrepresentation. I feel I do not have a binding contract with their company because of the lies and deceit presented by their representatives.

I have tried on numerous attempts personally with “It’s Just Lunch” to get a full refund of $1,800.00 but have been unsuccessful. I hope this letter better describes the reasons for my insisting a full refund and that by now putting it out there in the public, and now also taking them to small claims court, I hope to receive the refund due myself and help others against this fraudulent corporation.

  • Yes I was referring to filing a fraud claim. They will likely perform a chargeback where they recall the money from the company. It is then up to the company to plead their case as to why they should keep the money. Since you did not use any of the services paid for, they don’t have much incentive to to fight it as they’re not going to win, IMHO.

    The only time I was ever a fan of a credit card company was when VISA fraud department returned the $5000 I paid one of those NY camera (scamera) companies for video equipment they tried to bait and switch. They were great.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you to whoever you are behind this screen. I stuck to it and there is hope for a refund (albeit not complete, but pretty good). I emailed the Attorney General about the Georgia time period to receive refund, and in the meantime I called Customer Service for If It’s Lunch and finally got through.
    They told me they couldn’t help me and that I had to talk with the person who I signed the membership with, and that they would send an email to her to contact me when she gets out of her meeting. She has been in a meeting since about 10:00 (Although, I feel sorry for her because she is such a nice person…I can tell she is kind…but she works for this company who will probably fire her after this because she didn’t perform or meet her quota…I am not upset with her by any means…just the company) What kind of Customer Service is that for a company who claims that they are ‘professional, top notch?’
    I also called my ViSA company back and asked them what to do if If It’s Lunch called back with another deal and I didn’t want to take anything but a refund? After much conversation, and telling them what you’d said about the Attorney General and time limit on refunds in Georgia, and a bunch of other stuff, she put me on hold. Came back and asked if after the second time of talking to them (when they told me they couldn’t refund and tried to give me a deal instead), if she completely refused to refund me my money and I told her yes she did refuse and gave me a pitch instead of how I needed to stick with the membership. After being on hold again the credit card company told me they could give me a chargeback based on her refusal to refund. Credit card person (her name was Courtney and she was awesome!) was only able to charge back $2300.00 based on their Termination Clause saying that I would lose $500.00 for the interview fee (which never took place by the way), but I was very thankful to only lose that much. The Company can still come back and dispute the chargeback….they have 90 days…I so hope not. If they do, I have to provide my email proofs of requesting cancellation. For anyone out there in the same/similar situation make sure you send as many emails as you can and save them…they’re the only proof you have of requesting cancellations. I would have had no proof to say I’d done it in a reasonable time if I had called them to cancel. My credit card company now has this company on Fraud alert. I am so glad I found this blog and that you gave me some really good information to fight with.

    I am a retired military officer, well educated, good looking, cultured, world travelled, physically fit, and very clear and direct with my preferences and requirements. This company is a glorified scam. I have had to be the proactive one in trying to get the “dating director” to do his job, schedule interviews, and even the initial personal interview.
    This is unacceptable.
    Who should paying money to let people drag their feet for something you can already you do yourself with less effort?

    Stay the hell away from from this service, unless you like to waste money.

  • Stay away from this “service” Worst customer service ever. No quality prospects and the employees don’t care. If anyone has any advice on how to get money back please let me know.

    They got 3500 dollars from me. I have been on two dates, nothing like what was promised. They made it seem like I would have dating coaching, not even an encouraging word. They made it seem like I would have lots of dates over a 10 month time span with the bare minimum being 7, I have been a memeber for several months and when I complain about no dates, the response was, “you’ll get your 7 minimum!” The first date was too young! The second wasn’t interested in a relationship, so what did he want, a call girt? Fine but you’d think they could see what he was looking for and what I was looking for and realize hmm, that isn’t going to work. But it isn’t about custom anything. You’re looking for a guy, they find one within 100 miles and send you out to pay for your own meal! They don’t tell you they make you pay your own way, I never have before and never would have joined their service! I was humiliated when brought 2 seperate checks to the table without even being asked beforehand and the first date didn’t even flinch! My second guy, the call girl dude, grabbed mine to, but that’s because he is that kind of guy. The service expects me to pay!
    REALLY, MENTION THAT. MENTION THAT YOU REALLY WILL BE LUCKY TO GET 7 DATES IN 10 MONTHS. THAT SOME PEOPLE ONLY PAID 1800 AND THEY ARE TAKING YOU FOR WHATEVER THEY CAN GET, MY 3500!

  • First of all, I guess it didn’t make any difference to the person that signed me up that I was a retired tradesman and not a young professional. And, I don’t know how she got my name and number, but she was pretty persistent in that she called me for almost a year. I caved, what a mistake. My profile wasn’t close to what I told her, the age limits didn’t come close and again I’m not a young professional.
    I thought I would try first the website cancelwisconsindues@ijlmidwest.com. Wouldn’t you know it didn’t come up nor did ClientServices@ijlmidwest.com. Well the first date was a complete flop, we couldn’t have been more opposite. But she did tell me to beware. And I have a filing the next one will be the same. I will try to cancel and get a refund.

    John Schneider: The reason that those websites did not come up (cancelwisconsindues@ijlmidwest.com, ClientServices@ijlmidwest.com) could possibly be because those email addresses, not website addresses (aka URLs). – ADMIN

    They scammed me as well; after the sale was completed, the charming salesman pass me off to a disinterested young “dating coach”, who told me that the salesman “didn’t know anything about who was available” where I live, even though the salesman had told me that there were two men in my immediate neighborhood who were compatible professionals. They then arranged my first date in Bakersfield, at least a 3-4 hour drive from my home, at a steak house—-despite the fact I have been a vegetarian for 30 years! I haven’t filed the claim in small claims court yet. They should be shut down for such gross misrepresentation in their advertising. Does anyone want to participate in a class action suit? That might get their attention!

    I spoke with Mike F. He was pushy. On the computer he had me sign a very binding contract. he did nor explain that there was no local office in the city in which I lived..The next day a lady called me from Savannah. I drove all the way down there. She then told me she was not with IJL. I felt as if Milke F sold my information. She tried to tell me that there were not a good man to woman ratio and the Mike had not told me the truth. She then tried to sell me on her service. I would say the services of this company are fradullent. There contracts are “iron clad” and impossible to get out of.

    EVERYONE ON HERE SHOULD POST ON RIPOFF REPORT! This would appear at the top on PAGE 1 OF GOOGLE! This company keeps growing and taking $$$$$$$$$$$$$ from the innocent! They make sure they post enough BS ont he internet to push negative reviews back to PAGE 4-5. But RIPOFFREPORT.COM, your complaint will be at the top of page 1 on google. Please do this to protect the others. And, a national class action lawsuit should indeed be filed. The sales people are trained to BULLY their clients, pressuring them into signing the contract and then no way out.

    1) As well, what are you thoughts and comments about all these complaints for It’s Just Lunch Portland OR office. How did your business handle their complaints and how would you ensure that those complaints won’t affect me or any future clients.     2) So what is your business reason to use VOIP? And does that mean all these “45 locations” also use VOIP as their contact phone numbers, or do they have a local phone number which for offices is a typical landline?

    3) Where are these “45 locations” located and is there an actual office building that clients can go in? I may have friends in some of these “45 locations” and I can get them to check out the office building and ensure they are not like Portland OR location which closed a few years ago.

    4) And how come the Portland OR office closed a few years ago? I don’t consider this a waste of my time if I am researching your business and trying to understand your business practice. Why do you say this is a waste of time, when you are the one who contacted me today?
