REAL ESTATE WORLDWIDE (REWW) Warning

November 19, 2012

Real Estate Worldwide (REWW) potential students and investors are being warned by a “victim” of a previous venture:

“Run the other way – fast.”

(UnhappyFranchisee.Com) Words of warning about multilevel marketing startup Real Estate Worldwide (REWW) were issued by a franchise investor named Blake Warrington.  After attending a sales presentation at founder Jim Piccolo’s mansion, he signed up for Piccolo’s former venture, the Bizzibiz franchise program.

A year and a half later, the Bizzibiz franchisees have been all but abandoned and Jim Piccolo is now pitching multi-level marketing-driven real estate seminars and real estate investments through Real Estate Worldwide (REWW).

The office address for the “West Coast Headquarters” of Real Estate Worldwide (REWW) is 8502 E. Princess Drive, Suite 200, Scottsdale, AZ 85255.  Not coincidentally, that used to be the address of the Bizzibiz franchise headquarters until October, 2012 when a web designer was named CEO and Bizzibiz became “virtual” (in other words, homeless).

Jim PiccoloBlake Warrington wrote:

… there has been zero correspondence from Mr. Piccolo for several months now and I only learned from using Google Alerts that Mr. Piccolo had recently started another business venture. I could not believe this.

In essence, as far as I can tell since I have not heard anything, Mr. Piccolo has simply walked away from the sinking (sunk?) ship of BizziBiz without one word being said to the franchise owners – or at least to this one.

This shows a complete lack of ethics, integrity, responsibility, both personally and from a business standpoint, by Mr. Piccolo, and I would not trust a word he says.

In closing, I consider BizziBiz, Mr. Piccolo, the majority of the management team, and several of their employees to have completely failed on almost every level and they have bold-faced lied and hurt many people.

I would never do business with Mr. Piccolo, along with certain other people like Marc Gleeman who had a big hand in the day to day operations and overall problems of BizziBiz.

If anyone is reading this and considering joining his new Real Estate World Wide (REWW), I would highly suggest to run the other way – fast. If trouble starts to happen, as it always does with most businesses, especially new ones, then Mr. Piccolo may simply take the money and run.

It is not difficult to find similar complaints for Mr. Piccolo’s previous ventures either.  Before he started Bizzibiz, Jim Piccolo ran an earlier incarnation of REWW, a real estate seminar and investment scheme called Nouveau Riche University.

Nouveau Riche has crashed and burned as Jim Piccolo has turned his attention to his new business, bizzibiz.com. I don’t know anything about Bizzibiz.com, but I do know that Jim Piccolo does not honor his commitments. He has not fulfilled his requirements in his purchase agreements, he has not refunded any of the money, he has stiffed instructors not paying them their money and he has moved his staff into his new business location at Bizzibiz so that no one can reach him or any NR staff…

Do not do business with this man. He has taken so many people’s money and run. I don’t know anything about the new business, but I know I would feel comfortable telling everyone I know to run from ANY business he is involved with. There are many people trying to sue him and NR, and talk of a class action lawsuit. Don’t be one of the people he has taken.

According to its marketing propaganda, Real Estate Worldwide (REWW) is led by CEO Kent Clothier, founder of MemphisInvest.com, who has “assembled a ‘Dream Team’ among the whose who in direct selling with founders Brent Payne, Michael Hamburger and Heather O’Brien,” as well as Jim Piccolo and his wife Mary Piccolo.

According to a recent press release: “Jim Piccolo is helping to bring MemphisInvest.com’s proven real estate investment systems and tools to real estate investors worldwide. ‘We have the answer for many entrepreneurs and real estate investors looking to rise above the economic crisis and rebuild their life’s dreams and America,’ said Piccolo.”

Jim Piccolo’s detractors might caution that Piccolo’s previous ventures caused the personal financial crisis many of them suffered, and are the reason their life’s dreams need rebuilding.

As always, UnhappyFranchisee.com cautions:  buyer beware.  Do your homework, ask hard questions, and make up your own mind.

BIZZIBIZ Franchisees Reject Latest Jim Piccolo Spin

November 18, 2012

Jim Piccolo, founder of the Bizzibiz digital marketing franchise, would rather talk about the amazing wealthbuilding opportunities with his new Real Estate Worldwide (REWW) venture than the money lost by those who bought into his Bizzibiz venture hook, line and sinker.

In fact, Jim Piccolo has purged his LinkedIn profile of any mention of Bizzibiz whatsoever.

Jim Piccolo [Click on image, left, to see Jim Piccolo's recently edited LinkedIn profile.]

In a recent presentation to potential Real Estate Worldwide (REWW) investors, James Piccolo regaled the crowd for nearly an hour with his life story.  He spent most of the time getting their greed glands salivating with pictures of his former riches:  his multimillion dollar estate (the shoe room was a big hit), his private jet (which had a $300K lien against it, reportedly), his luxury car collection, family vacations to exotic international destinations, surprising his wife with a $100K red piano signed by Elton John, etc. etc.

There was no mention of the lifestyles now being enjoyed by the Bizzibiz franchisees who have been fighting off the collapse of their businesses due to the failure of Bizzibiz to provide the support that was promised – and paid for.

Jim PiccoloIn fact, Piccolo spends only a few minutes explaining how Bizzibiz was wildly successful when he launched it, but then was destroyed by his lazy programming staff (whom he calls “punks”) while he went into the hospital for colon surgery.

Unfortunately for Jim Piccolo, his franchisees are starting to speak out and are “calling B.S.” on Piccolo’s fairy-tale spin-story.

Tea Party activist and Bizzibiz franchise owner Mark Skoda is calling for a franchisee uprising and group lawsuit (Read BIZZIBIZ Tea Party Mark Skoda Threatens Franchise Uprising)

Ronald D. Reynolds has posted that Jim Piccolo is driving around Scottsdale in a beautiful black Bentley and his wife Mary Piccolo is in a black Range Rover despite not having paid him and other creditors. (Comments posted at BIZZIBIZ: Jim Piccolo Mansion Listed For $3.5M (SOLD!))

On our post JIM PICCOLO Blames Bizzibiz Failure on Lazy Punks, Bizzibiz franchisee Blake Warrington rejects Jim Piccolo’s spin-story and recounts the challenges he’s faced since being reeled in by the slick Bizzibiz sales pitch:

As a BizziBiz franchise owner who has been part of the business since it’s inception I am calling a big B.S. to a lot of what Mr. Piccolo is stating regarding BizziBiz and it’s operations.

blake_warringtonA little about me to understand my background, why I purchased a BizziBiz franchise, and to lend some credibility to what I am going to state here.

I have been studying and applying (and I am using BizziBiz terminology here) “digital marketing services” for numerous years. Six years ago I joined a network marketing company after losing my job and built 99% of what is now a very successful business using digital marketing strategies – and still do today.

Because of my success in building my network marketing business, people started contacting me and asking if I could help them with web site design and digital marketing services. I started doing this and quickly got overwhelmed as the “one-man-show. I also realized there may be an opportunity to start another business because there was a huge need for these types of services for small business owners.

I reconnected with a former business associate who understood the digital marketing space and had done very well with lead generation for his real estate business prior to the 2008 crash. He agreed to come on board and work with me to build this new business venture. Again, as our client base grew, the two of us and the small team we had put together started to get real busy with the growth we were experiencing.

Around this time I was contacted by another friend/business associate who was involved in Nouveau Riche. He knew I was in the digital marketing space and called to explain this new BizziBiz venture and invite me to a meeting to learn more.

Long story short, I was invited to Mr. Piccolo’s home in Arizona and was quite impressed with what I saw and the caliber of people I met there. This was a core group of about 25 – 30 Nouveau Riche people, along with myself (not having ever been in Nouveau Riche) who had been invited to see the debut of the new BizziBiz and Extreme Franchise Marketing business opportunity. We were also informed that if we came on board, and we were accepted, we could be part of a special “Centurion Counsel” which would consist of a select group of 25 franchise owners who would get preferential treatment, recognition and other benefits.

Mark SkodaKnowing that we were needing to expand our digital marketing business, and based on what was told to us at Mr. Piccolo’s home, I felt BizziBiz would be the perfect fit. So my wife and I plunked down our $25,000 to purchase a BizziBiz franchise and we proceeded to go to work and grow the business and add new clients.

While it is true that Mr. Piccolo did suffer an extremely serious and unfortunate health issue at one point, there were serious problems with BizziBiz from the very beginning (on Mr. Piccolo’s watch so to speak), and these problems continued throughout the entire time we worked with BizziBiz. In fact, they only got worse as time went on.

Some of the issues we dealt with were extremely slow turn around times on getting work completed. Simple web site design could take several weeks and in most cases, months to complete. Never ending broken promises on deliverables happened regularly, on a daily and weekly basis. Simple, but important and timely, tasks could get pushed down and not dealt with for extended periods of time. This quickly began to affect our business, our income and would soon start to impact our credibility in the community.

While BizziBiz billed our clients on a timely manner, commissions paid to franchise owners would be several weeks late and sometimes months. I had one incident where about $1,000 was owed to us for a couple months. This was during the period when Jim was in the hospital. When he finally got out of the hospital and found out was going on, I contacted him about the our commission check. Long story short, we were promised our check on three separate occasions and it took several more weeks before we received it. At one point in a conversation I had with Mr. Piccolo he stated our check was on his desk and he was going to personally drop it in the mail as soon as we hung up. It never came and took several more phone calls and emails before the check arrived. We were somewhat fortunate that we were eventually paid all of our commissions. However, there are numerous franchise owners I have heard about that have never been paid and have just given up.

We also had incidents where BizziBiz over billed or continued to bill our clients after we had told them to stop billing them. This was extremely frustrating and it almost got to the point where we were going to have to repay our clients out of our own account.

Phone calls and emails to certain people in BizziBiz would go unanswered for days and sometimes over a week, often on timely issues, tasks and projects that we needed to report to our clients about. It was extremely embarrassing for us with our clients as it happened over and over.

BizziBiz was constantly saying that they were completing work and that a given job was done. When we went over the job tasks there were constant issues with getting through to them to explain that they had in fact not completed the work. Case in point; we were told that the on page SEO (Search Engine Optimization) work had been completed on one of our clients web sites. When I looked at the source code (the hidden content search engines use to rank a web site) it had only been completed on a couple pages. Most of it had not been done at all.

I remember we had a conference call with a new CEO or manager regarding this issue, along with several other never ending issues we had on our plate to discuss. I brought up the fact that the on page SEO work had not been completed because I understand and know what is required for this to be done. Her response almost floored me and my three partners. She replied by asking me, “If I you know how to do all of this stuff yourself, why did you purchase a franchise?” That was her answer! We were like, are you kidding me? Unfortunately, the conversation went downhill from there. I also suspect that because the majority of franchise owners were former Nouveau Riche distributors, of which most of them knew very little or nothing regarding web site design, SEO and digital marketing serves, that BizziBiz could just tell them work was complete – when it was not, and they would not know any better.

Another case in point is BizziBiz brought in some SEO guru and we had him on a conference call with one of our clients who was about to leave us because of unsatisfactory work by BizziBiz. This new “SEO guru” promised our client that he would get a certain keyword in the first organic position on the first page of Google in something like 60 or 90 days. This was first position on the first page – not just getting our client on the first page. That is a HUGE promise and something I would never guarantee, however, this guy was some $250/hr guru, came off as extremely confident, so we all went with it. Of course this too did not happen, and, in fact, our client was actually going down in rankings for almost all of his keywords that we had started getting him good rankings for when we were doing the work.

Back to the phone call, we questioned this new CEO (manager) regarding what happened to getting our client on the first position of the first page of Google for this one particular keyword, and she stated that BizziBiz would never guarantee such a thing. Myself and my two partners were on the call and could not believe what we just heard. When we explained to her that the three of us were on the conference call with this SEO guru who made the promise, along with another BizziBiz employee and our client, and she simply restated that they could not guarantee such a thing and that the SEO guru was no longer with BizziBiz anyway. It was unbelievable!

At one point another franchise owner asked me to look at a keyword ranking report BizziBiz had sent him on one of his clients. When I looked at it BizziBiz was claiming top rankings for a very large number of keywords – which appeared to be true. The problem was most of the keywords had little or no relevance to the clients business, or there was little or no monthly search volume for the keywords. So, even if they did in fact rank high for a given keyword, it would produce little or no traffic and probably zero conversions or sales. Here again, an unsuspecting franchise owner like this one had no idea this was actually a poor report and was getting the wool pulled over his eyes.

I could go on and on with story after story regarding ongoing and never ending epic failure of BizziBiz, the management team, and the revolving door of employees and managers on almost every level.

Anyway, shortly after this phone call we knew we had to make a drastic change fast, or we were going to go out of business. We were starting to lose our clients because of BizziBiz’s constant failures, and more important, we were starting to lose our reputation and credibility in the community. I occasionally teach digital marketing strategies at local networking groups which gets us business. Bad word in these meetings would travel fast and cause serious damage to our growing business.

We ended up “throwing ourselves on the sword” and we spoke with every one of our clients who had been damaged by BizziBiz’s complete lack of credibility and their ability to perform. We were honest and upfront, and explained how we transitioned from doing the majority of the work ourselves and how I had purchased the franchise and turned their business over to BizziBiz.

We went to each client personally and offered to do work for them for free in order to gain their business and trust back. Fortunately the majority of our clients took us up on our offer and we were able to get every one of these clients back on track and fix all the problems created by BizziBiz. For the most part this took us several months of hard work to do in turning around poorly done SEO work (or none done at all), unfinished websites, and cost our company thousands of dollars and untold lost and uncompensated for hours. We also had to temporarily stop generating new business since there was so much work to do, which potentially cost us thousands of dollars in additional revenue.

It is also important to note that there has been zero correspondence from Mr.

If anyone is reading this and considering joining his new Real Estate World Wide (REWW), I would highly suggest to run the other way – fast. If trouble starts to happen, as it always does with most businesses, especially new ones, then Mr. Piccolo may simply take the money and run.

Anyone is welcome to contact me if they have any questions.

You can also Google my name and you will not find any disparaging information about me – unlike you will regarding Mr. Piccolo.

Sincerely,

Blake Warrington

BIZZIBIZ Tea Party Mark Skoda Threatens Franchise Uprising

November 18, 2012

Bizzibiz franchise owners have finally started speaking out against the clown-circus of a company that sold them one of the most ill-conceived franchise opportunities in recent history:  Bizzibiz Digital Marketing.

Bizzibiz founder Jim Piccolo is already on to his next venture, selling $8,000 real estate seminar packages and what appear to be get-rich-quick real estate investment opportunities through REWW Real Estate Worldwide in the former office space of Bizzibiz.

Jim Piccolo has even purged his Linked In profile of any mention of BizziBiz, as have many of his cronies (Such as Gail Gust, Daniel Silver, others) who aggressively promoted the doomed opportunity, then abandoned them and their clients.

Sources tell UnhappyFranchisee.Com that Ms. Toni Anderson began working for Bizzibiz in November, 2011 doing search engine optimization (SEO) work.  They say that she was crowned CEO (lucky her) when former CEO Kurt Ohlson jumped ship with a key employee and launched a competing firm called localseodeals.com.

Now Ms. Anderson faces a looming franchisee rebellion led by one of the founders and leaders of the TEA Party movement, Mark Skoda.  Here’s some of Mark Skoda’s  bio from LinkedIn:

Active in politics on the local and national level, Mark founded The Memphis TEA Party…He is a co-founder of the National Tea Party Federation, the National Tea Party Alliance and is an organizer of the National Tea Party Convention. Skoda was named to the Newsweek Inside The Tea Party Top 10 in September 2010.

He has spoken at numerous trade and political events, provided commentary while appearing on television and radio. Mark has been featured on radio, TV and in print nationally – CNN, FOX Business, Glenn Beck, CBS, MSNBC, ABC, Associated Press, LA Times; internationally on BBC Radio and TV, NHK Japan, Dutch National TV, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan, France and Australia.

Skoda also runs MPS Broadcasting provides terrestrial AM/FM radio programming and content, local TV broadcasting and program development and internet radio services, and hosts the Mark Skoda Show.

The letter that Mark Skoda sent last month to Bizzibiz CEO Toni Anderson has been circulating among the surviving Bizzibiz franchise owners:

BizziBiz, Inc.

Scottsdale, AZ 85255

To Whom It May Concern:

Over the past several months, BizziBiz has attempted to right the ship and rectify the challenges of management changes, technology failures and a failed Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. During that same period, leadership came and went and clients were exposed to internal and external factors that degraded the BizziBiz brand. While a number of people attempted to step up to attend to existing clients and fix problems resulting from these many missteps, in the end it appears that problems continue with little reason to expect a better outcome.

Furthermore, outstanding debts are unlikely to be paid and there is no real possibility of external cash coming in to support a re-launch of the business. In my own case, besides the investment in the franchise itself, my franchise is owed approximately $32,000 in back commissions. Recently, one of my clients has subsequently terminated their relationship and has requested their up-front fees for a website that was never developed; a further $1,700. The former amount was part of the public record during the Chapter 11 filing and the latter now due my client.

It now comes to my attention that two former BizziBiz employees may have taken intellectual property from the company, worked on developing their business while in the employ of BizziBiz and may have destroyed vital data to the continued service of active clients. As of the date of this letter, no action has been taken against these former employees nor does it appear that funds are available to prosecute any case in the matter.

In the context of the failure of the franchise model, that is the inability to execute the responsibilities as outlined in the Uniform Franchise Offering Circular (UFOC), I find myself at a crossroads in considering my next actions. This note outlines some of those actions that would be appropriate.

Mark SkodaFirst, we will need to hire a lawyer to pursue all of the rights of the company to retain its intellectual property, determine any damages done to its clients or any misappropriation of corporate information that benefitted the former employees to the detriment of BizziBiz and the franchisees collectively.

Second, we need to hire and initiate a full forensic accounting of the financial transactions related to the operations of BizziBiz. This would include a full accounting of all cash received, disbursements made and investments/purchases related to the operation of the business. This forensic accounting effort will also look at all transactions related to any interested parties so as to determine whether any fraudulent actions took place to the detriment of the business and its franchisees.

Third, we need to hire legal counsel to evaluate the current state of the business and take a decision as it relates to the rights of the franchisees in relation to the UFOC and the actual operations of the company from its inception to the current date of operations.

I wish to notify you that I am looking to bring together a group of franchisees to fund this initiative and to represent them in this effort to determine whether or not any recourse is possible or necessary. This would include the capture of unpaid commissions, any intellectual property that may still have value and to determine if any civil or criminal actions may be necessary given the possible harm of the interests of the franchisees and their clients.

I regret these steps; however, I believe it is time for a full accounting of this business failure in the interests of its employees, franchisees and their clients. Please be advised that you should retain all records, emails, and notes, in paper or electronic form related to the BizziBiz operations. No records should be destroyed or deleted nor should any material changes be made to financial records that have been developed or retained in the operation of the business. You should be prepared to provide all business records at a time and place required by our attorney upon appropriate filings.

Respectfully submitted,

Mark Skoda sig

Jim Piccolo property 4

Jim Piccolo’s property is listed as a short sale

Jim Piccolo’s mansion is listed as a “short sale,” which is explained on the Redfin website:

A short sale listing is one in which the seller still owns the property, but owes more money on his mortgage than he will get from selling the property. Most often, more than one bank holds a mortgage on the property and each bank has to approve the sale…

With multiple parties required to approve the transaction, the short sale process can be long and frustrating, and comes with no guarantee of success….

How are Short Sales Different Than Foreclosures?

Short sale homes are still owned by the home-owner, while foreclosures are owned by banks. If the home-owner cannot sell the home through a short sale, the bank initiates foreclosure to try to sell the home directly, often in an auction. If the auction fails to turn up a buyer willing to pay at least what the bank was owed on the home, the home becomes Real Estate Owned (REO), where the owner is the bank. The bank then typically sells the property through a real estate agent.

JIM PICCOLO Blames Bizzibiz Failure on Lazy Punks

November 16, 2012

Bizzibiz digital marketing franchise founder Jim Piccolo blames the failure of Bizzibiz on web developer “punks” who destroyed the successful bizzi-ness while he valiantly fought for survival in the hospital.

Some months ago, a Jim Piccolo supporter had emailed the account that Jim Piccolo had been maintaining, how all was great until the lazy group of slacker programmers (a team that previously made up the small start-up Bouncefire) took advantage of Jim’s illness and time away from the controls:

“When Piccolo got stricken ill and almost died, the Bouncefire team took to goofing off and not doing the committed work. When Jim returned, he quickly saw what was going on (or not going on) and parted ways with the Bouncefire team and essentially rebuilt the entire delivery model – an unplanned but necessary for survival. I know that Jim has essentially sold most if not all of his assets and had put this money into Bizzibiz. This includes his homes, his car collection and everything else. I know he is vested in seeing Bizzibiz succeed and he remains involved.”

Now that Jim Piccolo is now focused on a new real estate training venture called Real Estate World Wide (REWW), he has rewritten his history to blame the failure of his previous real estate ventures and Nouveau Riche University (without naming them) on the economy/real estate market and the failure of Bizzibiz digital marketing on colon surgery and opportunistic punks.

The new and improved Jim Piccolo success story does not include that the Arizona Corporations Commission charged that Jim Piccolo and his business partners must pay nearly $6 Million in restitution and fines for defrauding 105 investors (Read BIZZIBIZ Franchise Founder Jim Piccolo Defrauded 105 Investors, Says AZ), nor the premature franchising of the unproven Bizzibiz concept that resulted in losses by its franchisees.

The remarkable rebirth of Jim Piccolo is told in dramatic fashion in this 56 minute presentation to REWW meeting attendees.  It includes gripping high school yearbook pictures of Jim, tales of his accomplishments as a high school yearbook, and many slides of his extravagent lifestyle, international vacations, luxury cars, his mansion and his private jet (nearly all gone now).

If you are interested in the Bizzibiz story, skip ahead to 32:15 minutes in, or just read the transcript below.

Jim Piccolo Reinvents Himself… Again

Jim Piccolo on the collapse of the Bizzibiz franchise:

In a presentation pitching Real Estate World Wide (REWW), Jim Piccolo explains his version of the collapse of Bizzibiz:

Had a partner, had a good idea, he decided he wanted to start a digital marketing company, so we decided to take the last half a million dollars we had and started a digital marketing company. Opened in January of 2011 and it shot up like a rocket. We applied the same principles that we had before, we worked really hard and we went from nothing to half a million in sales by June of 2011.

So I thought YES! We’re back! We can do this!

From nothing to half a million dollars in 5 months. I thought OK we’re in bad shape, we’re on life support here, but we can make this. The stress was killing me. I was taking it all in. I was trying to protect my girls. I was trying to keep the buildings. I was taking everything we could take. I was going to cash. I was trying to do the right thing.

Jim PiccoloAnd then… this happened [shows picture of himself in hospital bed.]

June 26 of 2011, I ended up with a perforated colon. Anyone know what that is? 76% of people who end up with perforated colons DIE. Believe me, there were many days that I wished I were dead.

I layed in that hospital bed and I prayed to God: “Please kill me.”

7 months in and out of the hospital.

4 major surgeries.

Pain medication. I don’t even remember most of it. They cut a foot out of my colon. Left me with a colostomy bag… I had tubes in my arms and my legs. I knew that this was devastating. I knew that this was going to be a really long recovery. I knew that I was in really bad shape.

I said “Lord, take me. I’ve got a $16 million life insurance policy. They’ll be fine.”

What are you going to do? You’re laying in bed! You’re broke as two sticks! You had the world by the tail, everything was going great! Making money! Meeting people!  Travelling the world! Having fun! Taking care of your friends! Giving back! Now I’m laying in a bed. Can’t even get up. ..

After I went through my recovery, after I went back to that digital marketing company where it was completely destroyed, those punks had ruined it for me…

BIZZIBIZ: Bizzi Biz Inc. Bankruptcy Dismissed

August 16, 2012

BizziBiz may just be remembered as the Rodney Dangerfield of franchise failures.

Even their attempt at bankruptcy failed…

BIZZI BIZ FRANCHISE INC., franchisor of the ill-fated BizziBiz digital marketing franchise (founded by Jim Piccolo, of Nouveau Riche fame), sought Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection earlier this year.  (See BIZZIBIZ Bizzi Biz Franchise Goes Bust, Declares Bankruptcy)

However, the United States Bankruptcy Court of the District of Arizona has dismissed the Bizzi Biz bankruptcy case.

It seems that Bizzi Biz Franchise, Inc. failed to file the required schedules and statements.

It seems that executives of Bizzi Biz Franchise, Inc. “failed to appear and be examined at the meeting of creditors…”

Bizzibiz continues to provide a cautionary of how NOT to grow a business and, in particular, how NOT to start and grow a franchise business.

BIZZIBIZ Bizzi Biz Franchise Goes Bust, Declares Bankruptcy

July 3, 2012

Bizzi Biz Franchise, Inc., franchisor of Bizzibiz digital marketing franchise, is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection just 18 months after its much-hyped franchise debut.

If UnhappyFranchisee.com were not such a classy website, we might say We told you so!

After all, Bizzibiz had one of the all-time worst franchise launches in history.

Bizzibiz was conceived, from Day 1, simply as a franchise opportunity… It had no proven track record nor a successful model to replicate.

It was founded by Jim Piccolo, a master of creating such money-losing investments as Nouveau Riche University and Piccolo University (stock ticker PEDU, trading at $0.002/share).

Bizzibiz digital marketing had no experience nor expertise in digital marketing.  In fact, its own social media presence was next-to-nil.

1 month after its franchise debut, Bizzibiz founder Jim Piccolo was found guilty of defrauding 105 investors in a prior real estate deal, and was ordered to pay $6 million restitution.  (BIZZIBIZ Franchise Founder Jim Piccolo Defrauded 105 Investors, Says AZ)

3 months after the franchise launch, Bizzibiz sued its much-touted franchise attorney (Mr. Franchise Kevin B. Murphy) and dropped him from the board (BIZZIBIZ Suing Mr. Franchise Kevin B Murphy and Franchise Foundations PC).

6 months after the Bizzibiz franchise launch, spokesperson of the franchise sales arm of Bizzibiz, TV huckster Don LaPre, was indicted on defrauding 222,000 people out of $52 million in a vitamin-selling scheme (BIZZIBIZ: VP Don LaPre 2nd Exec Indicted for Fraud)

7 months after the launch of Bizzibiz, CEO Jim Piccolo stepped down (citing “health reasons”) and was replaced by Kurt Ohlson, who had no background in either franchising OR digital marketing (BIZZIBIZ Jim Piccolo, Out, Kurt Ohlson in as CEO of Bizzibiz).

8 months after the launch of Bizzibiz, spokesperson Don LaPre took his own life in prison (BIZZIBIZ: Infomercial Huckster Don LaPre Dies in Prison).

18 months after the launch of the Bizzibiz franchise, franchisor Bizzi Biz Inc. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in Arizona.

BIZZIBIZ Jim Piccolo, Out, Kurt Ohlson in as CEO of Bizzibiz

December 12, 2011

Kurt Ohlson is the new CEO of embattled digital marketing franchise start-up Bizzibiz.

According to a message from CEO Kurt Ohlson, founder Jim Piccolo has stepped down from his position as head of the company due to a “severe medical condition requiring a major emergency surgery… and several additional surgeries and hospitalizations afterwards.”

The news about Jim Piccolo was contained in a message that Kurt Ohlson sent to UnhappyFranchisee.com regarding our post BIZZIBIZ Chris Hendley Social Media FAIL or Murder-Suicide as a Social Media Tool.

Statement From Bizzibiz CEO Kurt Ohlson

Dear Unhappy Franchisee,

I would like to respond directly to your post and to the post by Chris Hendley. I apologize for the delayed response but, as you know, BizziBiz prefers to answer in a professional manner with verifiable facts.

First, I would like to clarify that Chris Hendley is not a BizziBiz Account Manager. Mr. Hendley is associated with Extreme Franchise Marketing, Inc., an independent company that does not share any ownership with any of the principals of BizziBiz. Extreme Franchise Marketing, Inc. currently has the exclusive rights to marketing the BizziBiz franchise opportunity in 2011. This contract ends on December 31, 2011. Mr. Hendley works for Gary Curtis, a vice president of Extreme Franchise Marketing, Inc. When Extreme Franchise Marketing, Inc. attempted to contact Mr. Hendley to discuss his post, he did not respond in time for this writing. Mr. Curtis responded on behalf of Extreme Franchise Marketing, Inc. and his team member, Chris Hendley. In a statement to the company, Mr. Curtis reported that “Mr. Hendley has had success in selling BizziBiz franchises and is a very passionate man who truly believes in the BizziBiz franchise product.”

Second, BizziBiz does not condone the use of profanity, nor do we believe that making threats is a proper way to respond to statements made about the company. As stated above, Mr. Hendley is not a BizziBiz Account Manager, nor is he a franchisee or a DMC (Digital Marketing Consultant) of a franchisee. Therefore, he does not have the authority to speak on behalf of BizziBiz. Furthermore, BizziBiz does not condone or endorse Mr. Hendley’s opinions or his actions. We hope that these facts help to clear the air on the posts from Mr. Hendley.

Lastly, you are probably wondering why this response is not from BizziBiz Founder Jim Piccolo. Due to Mr. Piccolo’s severe medical condition requiring a major emergency surgery on June 26, 2011 and several additional surgeries and hospitalizations afterwards, I was appointed CEO of BizziBiz on July 18, 2011. As many people know, Mr. Piccolo is a caring, charismatic, energetic, and philanthropic entrepreneur who is dearly missed by all staff, franchisees and DMCs of BizziBiz. We all pray for his full and speedy recovery.

If anyone wishes to discuss the items addressed in this forum, I encourage you to please contact me, Kurt Ohlson, directly at 480.991.8888 extension 120.

Respectfully,

Kurt Ohlson

CEO, Bizzibiz

Recently, Bizzibiz Account Manager Chris Hendley represented the Bizzibiz brand and spoke to the quality of the Bizzibiz business with a comment leveled at the staff of UnhappyFranchisee.com

Bizzibiz Account Manager Chris Hendley left this message on our post about the death of Don LaPre, the alleged conman and VP of a Bizzibiz affiliate who recently died in prison:

Chris Hendley on November 4th, 2011 3:42 pm

To bad Don didnt break out and come Terminate your fucking ass before killing himself you cocksuckers will write about anything on here just to get attention

and still to this day not 1 person coming Forward saying they got screwed buying a Bizzibiz Franchise and thats the only Focus you should have had from day 1 but what do you expect from Lowlife douchebags to write about i guess

Wow! Chris Hendley of Bizzibiz must be using social media techniques so cutting edge that they appear, to the untrained eye, out of control and self-destructive.

Murder-Suicide as a Social Media Tool

While most social media experts embrace open dialogue and exchange of ideas, Bizzibiz’ Chris Hendley is pioneering the use of the wish for murder-suicide as a response to  those with opposing ideas.

While most social media experts would advise against using crude & vulgar terms when representing one’s company, it seems that Bizzibiz’ Chris Hendley believes in building one’s brand through the unashamed use of such bold words as “c*cksucker,” “f*cking *ss,” and “Lowlife d*uchebags.”

And while most timid social media experts would caution that the misuse of punctuation and capitalization might give the impression that one is an uneducated, illiterate and/or lazy lout, Bizzibiz’ Chris Hendley (obviously inspired by James Joyce’s Ulysses) brings the run-on sentence and random capitalization to a whole new level.

Bizzibiz’ Chris Hendley is working his social media magic on other blogs as well, including a discussion on Black Box Social Media.

In that discussion, Chris Hendley denies that Don LaPre was a VP of a Bizzibiz affiliate (although LaPre was named as such on their website) and claims that a noted franchise attorney endorses Bizzibiz (despite the fact that the noted expert entered litigation with Bizzibiz 3 months earlier).  While the untrained observer might mistake these statements as deceptions, or even lies, Bizzibiz Chris Hendley won’t be detered by such things as truth or, say, ethics.

In the Blackbox discussion, Bizzibiz Account Manager Chris Hendley posted one of his most magnificent pieces of social media writings, managing to combine offensive words, random capitalization, a thinly veiled death threat, and a brilliant mangling of grammar and syntax in just 34 words:

“…i guess if Don Lapre picked another type of franchise the Pathetic unhappy franchise dipshit could write crap about that franchise to bad Don lapre didnt do the world a favor and stabbed you”

Bizzibiz: Have you left the kids home alone?

Of course, we’re not saying that everyone at Bizzibiz is unprofessional and illiterate with homicidal tendencies.

In fact, Bizzibiz CEO Jim Piccolo’s response to our concerns was thorough, professional and respectful of our right to express our views (BIZZIBIZ Franchise Founder Jim Piccolo Responds to Criticism).  It was the most artful rebuttal we’ve received in a long time.

But the fact that someone like Bizzibiz Account Manager Chris Hendley is allowed to freely sabotage Bizzibiz’ online reputation unchecked is troubling.  It reinforces the concern that management not only doesn’t understand social media, they aren’t even monitoring their own employees’ misuse of it.

UnhappyFranchisee.com is not advising people not to invest in the Bizzibiz franchise opportunity.  That’s not what we do.  But we have some valid concerns about the concept and the company, which we feel compelled to share and discuss.

Thanks to Bizzibiz Account Manager Chris Hendley, we now have one more.

BIZZIBIZ: Infomercial Huckster Don LaPre Dies in Prison

October 7, 2011

Don Lapre, the Phoenix-based infomercial pitchman, was found dead in his cell  at a federal-contract facility just 2 days before his trial on fraud charges linked to his vitamin-selling business.

According to Matt Hershey, supervisory deputy U.S. Marshal, Lapre was found about 8:30 a.m., unresponsive in an apparent suicide.

Officials would not say how Lapre may have killed himself.

According to an Arizona Republic story:

“Previously, the U.S. Department of Justice stated Lapre may have suffered from anxiety and depression and warned that he may have had suicidal thoughts…

"We are not yet releasing how he might have injured himself.

”Lapre was wanted by law enforcement after he failed to appear at his U.S. District Court arraignment in June on 41 counts of conspiracy, mail fraud, wire fraud, promotional money laundering and transactional money laundering. A federal grand jury indicted Lapre on fraud-related charges for promoting his vitamin-selling business, Greatest Vitamin in the World of Phoenix. The indictments alleged that the business signed up 226,794 people who were promised lucrative commission checks for selling vitamins and recruiting others to the business.

“Customers and investors spent nearly $51.8 million, but only 5,000 victims were paid about $6.4 million in commission, according to a statement released in June by the U.S. Department of Justice. Lapre collected at least $2.2 million from the business from 2004 to 2007.”

UnhappyFranchisee.com has been following the Don LaPre saga as it unfolded because of LaPre’s connection to digital marketing franchise Bizzibiz and its affiliate Extreme Franchise Marketing.
