ANAGO CLEANING SYSTEMS Franchise Complaints

The Anago Cleaning Systems franchise website boasts that it has been named by Entrepreneur magazine as 5th fastest growing franchise in 2010, and that it is “ahead of the competition due to the availability of profitable markets throughout the nation.”

Like most commercial cleaning franchises (janitorial franchises), Anago Cleaning Systems offers both “Master” franchise opportunities and “Unit” franchise opportunities.  According to the Anago website:

“An Anago Master Franchisor has exclusive rights to a defined territory. The Master sells and trains Unit Franchisees throughout the territory. The Master also obtains cleaning contracts to be serviced by the Unit Franchisees. A Master Franchise candidate should have a strong sales & marketing background

An Anago Unit Franchisee owns his or her own cleaning business, and the business can be started with a minimal investment.”

However, unhappy franchisee commenters have posted complaints about the Anago Cleaning Systems franchise opportunity, with some claiming the Coverall franchise is a scam.

In December, 2009, commenter “holy one” wrote on the Complaints Board website:

“I thought my family and I were making a great move by purchasing into Anago not true. This is the worst experience I have ever gone throug they promise cleaning contracts never fulfill their mission. We invested $9, 000 into this company guess how many contracts we recieved 2 that’s right. Guess how much a total of 1300.00. Please do not invest with Anago please pass the word they are a noncompliant company here in atlanta GA their out to take your money.

More recently (on the same board) “Coverall Franchise owner/until expires” wrote:

I totally agree with the complains. I am a franchise owner myself. they are totally liers. I made a contract for $20k, I gave $14.000 downpayment and we agree that I was going to pay the rest each month /deducted from my paycheck. I though I was going to get my acconts (offices to clean) in one month. But, they made me wait about a year, plus I was making $9 dollars per hour (fast and hard work) and I did not had any money to hired an employee to help me. How much I was supposed to pay if I hire one? 1 dollar? THEY ARE SCAMMERS. Yes, they are in the forbes magazine, of course because they make money but franchises dont. they will take you money and make you work like crazy. they also charge for administration but you are the one who has to comfront the office owners if something is wrong or if you want them to increase your payment because you are working extra hours. DONT MAKE ANY CONTRACT WITH THEM, They are not good, this business is not worth it at all. I am totally dissapointed :(

on the same board, jjamiranda wrote that all janitorial franchises, not just Coverall, are scams:

I bought a franchise with Anago in 2006 and when I started everything sounded great – when I actually started doing the "real thing" it was different than what I was told in my initial interview- so the first 6 months I didn’t make any return on my investment (I was spending more money than expected or than I was making) – I had complaints from companies and lots of various problems – the whole conversion into franchise owner was very unorganized and chaotic – it made me very upset and frustrated.

After a year or so I began to understand why I was having all those problems and most of the problems were because I simply did not read the contract – although the person I bought the franchise from did not supply me with the training necessary to begin my journey after we worked it out everything began to get better and I began to learn and make good money.

Being a franchise owner is NOT for everyone no matter if it’s a cleaning company or a restaurant – you have to posess the certain skills and determination to keep trucking along when times are tough and become the proper business owner that you need to be.

The thing to make you successful at anything in life -not just this is to read and constantly develop your personal skills on every spectrum of learning – from managerial skills to business knowledge in general – building your self esteem as a business owner will put you leaps and bounds in front of others.

A franchise is a learning experience – in the first half of it – consider yourself an employee you are still learning THEIR system and training and developing the skills – it is not until YOU learn how to work and run the system for YOU that you become a business owner and start making the system work for you instead of against you.

Anago is a good starting point for any franchise owner – it allows you to get in cheap and develop your necessary skills to make more than you have put in – in a short period of time compared to other big name mainstream franchises. I learnt how to make my franchise system work for me and with me beside me at all times – I hope you can too – the key = learn the system.

NEVER quit – or give up – let your obstacles guide you in a new direction – good luck!

Cleaning franchisors rip-off the people who clean and the customers. It’s all a ponzi Scam. These cleaning franchisors have many lawsuits and they need to be put in jail.

  • LadyT

ANAGO of WASHINGTON DC. I am STILL OWED $3,200.00 from accounts that I did back in 2006. I was told that my Master franchise that they was going to pursue a lawsuit against the customer. To this date (9-6-10) I STILL haven’t heard from anyone. I called several times with the same response “it takes a while for the process”. These guys are a RIP OFF. They collect money from you but hesitate to give you whats owed to you. They take accounts away for “Supposably Badd Cleaning” and give it to another franchisee to fulfill his requirement. i’ve been with these guys for about 4 years. i have struggled for every year with these guys. i invested well over $5,000 so i am not going to “Just Walk Away”

  • Jerry Carter Hater

Oh my god Jerry you are such a loser glad I called it back then when you thought you were “King”, you were nothing short of an Ass Clown, I loved watching you think you were invincible. Yet here you are starting another half ass company and ripping off people non-stop. As I read your remarks to others I could hear your nauseating voice in the back of my head spewing your smug remarks. I guess you really did have little man syndrome you fat pudgy little man. I see over the years you have become very familiar with the law and court systems. I am now the last one laughing. I knew you would get what was coming to you. Has your wife divorced you yet or is she primarily hanging on to your money…she couldn’t possibly want you and your muscle milk drinks, you should check the calories on those they aren’t doing you any good!!! HAHAHAHAHA

  • Unhappy Anago Franchise Owner

Anago of Cleveland, OH and Columbus, OH is definitely not a wise investment. The management is the absolute worst in the industry. late payments, no explanations, no communication you name it. They are not financially secure therefore they hold money that is rightfully yours and claim that the particular client hasn’t paid and when asked they offer no assistance in the collection process even though that’s what a good percentage of the franchise fee you pay is supposed to be for. They treat their franchise owners with absolutely no respect. I was fortunate enough to sell my franchise for a fraction of the amount I invested and although I was truthful with the new owner, I still wouldn’t wish Anago upon my worst enemy.

    STAY AWAY!!!!

  • ECleaneroutraged

I agree with statement above. I’m currently filing a lawsuit against them. Jeff Schaffer, the master franchise owner is a thief and deserves to be charged criminally! They downright steal your hard earned money and blame it on the clients even when the clients have proof of payment! Stay away!!!!!!

I worked for Anago in sales for about a year. I should have known I was in for a rough time of it when on my first day I went with the master franchise owner on 3 calls and all three of them were bad. They were terrible at qualifying a lead. If it was bad it did not matter the appointment setter would keep badgering until she got the appointment. Well I show up and guess what, they already hate Anago and took the appointment to shut the appointment setter up. At this point they are not even open to the idea. Another thing was how they would go thru the database and continue to call and set appointments up with companies who had told Anago no anywhere from 3-7 times and were thrilled with who they already had.

The marketing material I had to work with was pathetic, towards the end of my tenure I was having to make my own business cards because they would not get me any. The proposals we sent out were God awful, plain and boring. There was nothing eye catching about anything we did in Atlanta.

I felt bad for the franchisee’s because the ones I knew worked their butts off. I will say this Dave and the gang in Florida are making out like bandits. The day I was let go was one of the best days and a turning point in my life. I now work for myself and while it is the hardest thing I ever done it is also the most rewarding things I have ever done.

I’m considering investing on Anago here in Tampa FL. I have met with them twice at their Clearwater office. Everything sounds pretty convincing, but I’m a little skeptical now that I read all of these bad reviews.
I would like to hear someone’s honest experience with Tampa’s Anago Franchise.
    Thank you.

  • Dissatisfied

Don’t ever invest in a franchise with these thieves and liars. Anago of Cleveland, Columbus is the absolute worst. Jeff schaffer and his administration are liars and thieves. I’ve lost tens of thousands of dollars with these crooks. I’m business savvy and quite intelligent but there is no way to succeed with this franchise. The franchisees are not going to make anything. They will lie concerning AR, never pay on time, never pay in full etc. STAY AWAY!!!!

  • Don't buy a Anago franchise!!

    Anago is a scam.
I’m a franchisee they say its your business but they tell you what to do and when to do it they say they work for you but that is a lie ,the master franchise owner have me do work but tries to cheat me out of my money if anyone can help me out of this horrible situation please reply.

They come up with different fees like now they saying I have to pay them a extra 4% on top of the 33% that I’m already paying the reason to look for new contracts even tho they are not looking but I still have to pay

So don’t buy a Anago franchise!!

  • Please do not invest your money into Anago of Philadelphia…I was a franchise owner for 7yrs I made ok money but ..they tell you your a business owner but you dont make no decisions…also like someone else said ..when they owe you money you have to wait till they are ready to give it to..or get this ..they will change the schedule pay date to another more than 3x smh…I could write so much more. I know nothing is perfect but I think people just want honesty and for a company to do what they say they will do….My franchise is on hold from what I’m told because I have an open court case…But these are the same people who sold a franchise to a convicted felon ..lol..thats all i can do..but I will continue to voice the truth about this company!!!!

  • nootballin

Anago dayton cinn sucks there a stright scam they steal one contact from you and give it to another and charge fees on it if you have a problem u better not call them because there never in the office but they know how to fine u for anything I have made the worst move ever by joining these clowns they should be sued from bad business

  • I AM A ANAGO FRANCHISE OWNER HERE IN TAMPA. THE BIGGEST MISTAKE I HAVE MADE WAS PUTTING MONEY INTO THIS BUSINESS. WHEN YOU NEED THEM OR LEAVE A MESSAGE THEY NEVER CALL BACK. THEY ARE EXCELLENT IN SALES AND THEY ARE REALLY CONVINCING…I HAVE SO MANY THINGS TO SAY REGARDING MY EXPERIENCE WITH THEM BUT IT WOULD PROBABLY TAKE A DAY TO WRITE. I’M NOT HEAR TO CONVINCE ANYONE NOT TO BUY BUT JUST HAVE OPEN EYES WHEN YOU INVEST YOUR MONEY. I REALLY WISH I HAD MET SOMEONE BEFORE INVESTING MY MONEY BECAUSE IT SURE WOULDN’T HAVE BEEN WITH ANAGO …GOOD LUCK TO ALL AND HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY

  • John rodill

    Ray Gray,

  • NOT AMAZED

ANAGO FRANCHISING ALL OF THEM ESPECIALLY IN SOUTH FLORIDA, WITH TERRY MOLLICA, DAVID POVLITZ AND ADAM POVLITZ
BIGGEST SCAMMERS OF ALL. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF EMPLOYEES AND FRANCHISE OWNERS.
THEY TAKE YOU IN AND THEN SPIT YOU OUT LIKE LAST NIGHT’S DINNER.
I KNOW FIRST HAND WORKED WITH THEM OVER 12YRS.

HEAR YE ALL, DO NOT PURCHASE ANY FRANCHISES FROM THIS COMPANY. LOOK AT ALL THE LAWSUITS AGAINST THEM….

  • Anago of columbus is definitely the worst ever. They lie, cheat and steal you out of your hard earned money. They will give you excuse after excuse month after month for different accounts not paying and get upset when you contact them yourself to verify their story because you’ll find out it’s BS. If Jeff Schaffer or Scott still owns the master franchise then stay away! I hope they get whats coming to them. They’re are going to upset the wrong person some day. Oh, and if you ever want to sell it, good luck. Nobody wants a franchise with this company. I still have mine after 5 years. I couldn’t give it away.

  • THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION IT SAVE TIME AND MONEY THANKS A LOTS

  • young will

hey everybody just made me not want to invest into this……..im so glad I read about this cause I was pumped to get my own but now ill just find something more personal…..an self owned

  • People, there are THOUSANDS of cleaning franchisees out there right now, some doing extremely well, and some doing poorly. A lot depends on the master franchisee in your particular area. If they are on the ball, honest and looking for long term franchise owner relationships they will be great to work with. The people who hook up with charlatans will get burned. Doesnt mean the entire franchise is bad, and doesn’t mean cleaning as a franchise opportunity is bad.
Do your research, and don’t make your decision based solely on reviews, be they all good or all bad. Every franchise in the world has complaints.

  • Brian

I’m a independently owned cleaning service in Nashville TN and I can tell anyone planning to purchase a cleaning franchise to prepare to get scammed. I bid against them all the time, and they bid 40% under market price to get accounts, I can’t believe you guys could make any real money, or even hire employees with bids like that. Plus, when I go in behind a franchise to start a new account, the customer tells me they would never consider a franchise again. To me that means the last franchise has poisoned the well for the rest of the franchises no matter how good you maybe. Plus, you never really owned your own business right?
Our biggest weapon against a franchise now is to tell the customer to put the words lawsuit and complaints behind the name of any franchise name in the Google bar and watch ten pages come up of crap. Anago, Jan Pro, Jani King, it doesn’t matter.

  • This company is a SCAM!!!! I hired them to clean my 1 bedroom apartment. I made an appointment to come clean my apartment one day and they never showed up! On top of insult we rescheduled an earlier time and they showed up ONE HOUR LATE!!! (Needless to say I was late for work, but they didn’t care or compensate for my loss). The company sent over 2 cleaning personnel instead of 1 (which I don’t know why…I have a 800SQ apartment). THEN…they tried to extort $140 to clean my tiny apartment…once I said absolutely not they dropped the price to $80. The entire time they were there one person was standing around while the other worked and all they did was talk and talk…..ABSURD! I was ripped off and lied to! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY…STAY FAR FAR AWAY!!!

  • MS. C

I WORKED AT THE JACKSONVILLE FLORIDA LOCATION (TERRY MOLLICA) THE OFFICE MANAGER JOHANNA RAMIREZ IS A NASTY BITCH SHE TALK & TREAT PEOPLE LIKE SHIT. I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST SPANISH PEOPLE , BUT THAT’S ALL WHO SHE WANTS TO CATER TO. SHE IS DEFINITELY PREJUDICE I’M AFRICAN AMERICAN AND SHE HAVE MADE SOME RACIAL REMARKS TO ME. I CURRENTLY HAVE A LAWSUIT AGAINST THEM. , BUT THEY ARE SCAMMERS TO ALL THEIR EMPLOYEES FRANCHISE , SALES PEOPLE , TELEMARKETERS. ETC. I TOOK MORE THAN ENOUGH COMPLAINTS FROM CLIENTS AND FRANCHISEES. ANAGO DON’T CARE ABOUT ANYONE THEY JUST WANT YOUR MONEY. DON’T INVEST IN THIS COMPANY.

  • Zed longly

I wish i had seen these comments before i invested….everything that had been said here is all true….im not a business owner im a glorified worker ….im making less than i what i did at my old job and i was just a dish washer so it wasnt much already…i was promised big contracts that never existed and all types of big money jobs that i feel were kept to the closest of there elite circle of friends like stripping and buffing floors….im in such regret……if you have that money just take it and make your own business and find your own clients atleast you will be your own boss…..dont do it

  • MRLYN3000

Stay away from anago this company is one big scam just ask the franchise owners in indiana they packed up in the middle of the night and left with out paying there franchises owners, when in fact there clients did pay for services anago never informed there clients either .stay away from anago Any where in Ohio and Kentucky they are the same owners I suggest staying away from the whole anago system they are all frauds

  • Derrick

Yes I’m a franchisee currently with Anago & I agree that this is a RIP off company & actually ALL Sub Contractors are not what they seem to be at first the only people that gets the good accounts are the ones who are in the buddy circle or kiss their asses Circle. If it wasn’t for me being loyal to the 3 accounts I currently have I wouldn’t deal with Anago period they are out to make money for themselves not for the franchisees themselves & truthfully they need to be out of business nationwide & franchisees should be awarded all their money for the buildings they clean Anago is worse than CleanNet & that says a lot about these Companies like Anago they rip off artists & can’t stand to hear the truth about themselves

  • Frank calloway

I’ve been a franchise owner over 5 years in Cleveland Ohio. I also was the franchise owner of the year a couple years ago.
My complaint with the Master franchisees. vice president Chasity schafer Very rude disrespectful and always have a badd attitude every time I speak with her. Her attitude is so badd I don’t even take contracts anymore. I was revenue over 11000 a month now I revenue $2000 with and ago of Cleveland. Worst experience I ever made in my life. And I’m sure as soon as she see this email I am probably going to be penalize in some kind of way. 1st thing she’s going to say is I’m childish for expressing my personal feelings.

  • ifpg represents this franchise. no vetting just grabs the fee and posts. many failing and less than acceptable franchisers part of ifpg.
